This has nothing to do with the OP but I will say that one of my favorite go-tos right now is calamari with (US) cocktail sauce.

i can't do battered fried stuff.. I'm kinda glad about that, too...

Else I'd be eating deep fried snapper or cod... all... day... long...

I wish that were the case here. Fortunately the fried calamari I've had has been lightly breaded/lightly fried. Love the spice with it though. And it is dense and fills me up forever.

Ladies and Gents! I decided to hold off on the shrimp and got the broiled fish instead which was PERFECT! It was very soft and easy going down and only $6 since it's off the kid's menu. I also had soft broccoli on the side. Those red lobster biscuits were tempting but I behaved!

Thanks for all of your input!

In our area Red Lobster has a parmesan encrusted talapia. Might be available nationwide. We both were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I split it with my husband. When we went there the first time after surgery, I was on soft foods.

Glad you found something that worked with your diet.

Shrimp is one of the most diificult seafood to eat after surgery. I love shrimp..but was on my last phase of eating...lifetime. So I have curtailed trying this. But u may have better luck than me..

My NUT defines "soft food" as anything that can be mashed with a fork.

OP, I know you got fish instead and it was great, so this isn't necessarily for you, but for anyone else who might be reading. I started with shrimp on the puree phase -- pureed of course! I would puree shrimp with Sriracha sauce or something like that. When I moved on to soft foods, shrimp was one of the first things I ate. I like it sauteed with a sauce of hot sauce and melted blue cheese. I never had any problems with shrimp whatsoever and it's got great Protein for the caloric buck.

It seems like there is a lot of variability with what people tolerate and what they don't. Just because someone else had trouble with shrimp, doesn't mean that I did or that you will. And just because I didn't have trouble with shrimp, doesn't mean you won't. My advice - if a particular food is approved for your phase (check with your dietician, not internet strangers, if you have questions), then start by trying a small amount at home to see if you tolerate it before eating it in public!

Buffleheads is right on. Could work or not. Some experience one thing and others another. Talk to dr or nut to be sure. We all can and do listen to each other in a respectful manner. But you and your dr and your nut know your body best.

We are here to be supportive and offer our experience. Take it for what it is...OUR experience.

Good luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
