Rude awakenings....

Time to fess up...I eat too late sometimes. How do I know it is too late?

I wake up choking on vomit. Apparently my stomach, "The Bouncer", doesn't care if I am awake or asleep when he does his thing.

Being a child of the 60's I think of Jimi Hendrix who experienced this but was drugged out with Vesparax and didn't wake up.

I wake up...quickly...whether I'm involved in the flying monkey vs unicorn war or dumping Marylin Monroe, choking on vomit is an eye opener..the dream is over.

After getting it out I have a period of coughing, the vomit burns my throat something fierce and I have the feeling that it is not all out even though it probably is.

Anyone else experience sleevy jerking you up during REM?

Yes! I have this too, I thought it might have to do with a sleep aid I was taking, after some awful trial and error I learned that once I took the aid, there could be nothing by mouth, not even Water, unless I wanted to wake up vomiting in the middle of the night.

My experiences were almost exactly the same but not post surgery.

I'm also a nite owl and even when I knew it was too late to be eating, I did. And I could almost guarantee the event and that horrible taste in my throat. Then I would end up staying up till almost morning to avoid a repeat. Did I stop eating so late, NO. I ended up using a foam wedge in the bed to prop me up to avoid regurgitating.

Since starting pre-op diet this has not occured.

After your post I will definitely be avoiding the late night meals post- surgery as well. Thanks.

hmmm...I take melatonin to aid my sleep, a habit I picked up when I worked 3rd shift at the Juvenile Jail. Maybe it puts me out too much and digestion is halted.

Where have I been?

I have been frolicking hither, thither, and yon, spreading gmanbatness on all unsuspecting recipients of nonsensical folderol.

How you been?

I'm not even sleeved yet but I'd do that no matter how late I ate. It is a symptom of GERD, which I suffer from. I take protonix twice daily for it.

I misread. I'd be choking on ACID.

I take a ton of melatonin every night which doesn't cause this. I think perhaps it might be the time of night you are eating before bed. Have you noticed if it happens when you haven't eaten late?

It normally happens pretty close to after I have eaten, regardless of the time. When I take a nap in the daytime urps occur just like at night.

I must leave time before sleeping to not eat. Getting goosey-loosey on my discipline recently, gained 5 pounds. Some of it may be muscle but it's time to batten down the hatches anyway. I kicked fatso outa here, he ain't gettin back in.

If I eat more than usual it happens to me. I think the food expands a bit while digesting and rolls back up the entrance route since the pyloric valve is still slammed shut.

I did this 2 weeks ago. Woke up and had to cough for a good 3-4 minutes to get the taste out of my throat.

Lesson learned on my part. Not pleasent at all.

I work really hard not to get any acid reflux. I hate the feeling of acid in my esophageal. I take omeprazole on a daily basis but forget a lot. :P

I used to get this all the time. For me it wasn't so much what time I ate but if I over ate. Hasn't happened since being sleeved because I no longer over eat.

Yowza! I've not had this experience. Your post serves as a PSA for me. I will be careful to not eat too late.

Oh GMB, it's a long story of what has been up with me ... I was taking melatonin and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) when this vomiting occurred.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
