I begin the real part of my journey on Monday December 30, 2013 with my Roux-N-Y. I started looking into the surgical answer to my struggles with weight maintenance a year ago. At 5' 1.5 I weighed 120 in my teens, one year at 140 after dieting, and never close again. As with us all, I have tried every diet that has been suggested, advertised, and failed at keeping the weight off. In the last six years the weight has been slowly creeping up. Since then, I've developed PCOS, degeneration of joints in knees, back and neck. I've had a hysterectomy, and I think it's been worse since then three years ago. I am exhausted... So incredibly tired of the disappointment of not being able to lose it or keep it off it's like climbing up a steep icy hill and sliding back down continually... I need a little assist I think. The straw that broke the camels back was being diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus this month. Being further restricted from coffee, hot food, spicy, fried, chocolate, alcohol etc. I just could not imagine holding up.

I've done my research and continue to do so, but still am anxious about altering my digestive system and the repercussions of that. I'm trying to think logically that I am having issues now that in time will do damage more intense than what the changes I make to my stomach will do. It's hard to be at complete peace with the idea I guess. So that my Barifriends, is my story...

Well Bari's, it wasn't as bad as I made it out to be. First day did a lot of sleeping. I tolerated the sf Jello, juices , crystal light ( was too darn sweet) and am now finding this creamy

Chunk-free mushroom Soup on Step II to be a culinary masterpiece. ;) I'm sipping Water, walked six times yesterday, and continuing to walk today. Feeling okay. ;)

Update: first night at home

Thirsty and drinking Water but wanting G2's or Powerade zeros. I'm gonna try a zero but worried the tiny amount of sugar will affect me negatively. In my hospital stay of five days they gave me among other Step I items -liquid Tylenol lots of sugar, real jellos, a pain med that tasted awful like super sugared whiskey and regular pudding. I guess that first week the plan for sugar is to get your bowels moving. I had diarrhea all week. Still too loose for cool. Surgeon said he repaired a large hiatal hernia so I'll have a bit of additional tightness and pain. I believe I caught a bug as well as I spiked a 102 temp one day and had to stay an extra day.

At home... Ahhhhhh....Eating Chobani plain yogurt for Protein waiting for my Syntrax unflavored shipment to arrive. I'm not hungry but feel the need to get that 64/64 in ya know? How's everybody else? I'm wondering what to eat Step 2 is boring and I'm nervous to experiment.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
