Reglan/Metoclopramide 10mg- Scared

Recommended Posts

Hello my friends.....I am really having a hard time out of the gate ;( I have been having really bad left chest and shoulder pain (stabbing with a knife). It hurts worse when I take a deep breath in. I went and saw my surgeon today and he prescribed me 2 medications. Reglan/Metoclopramide and Dexilant. After reading about the Reglan, I really do not want to take this medication. Has anyone had any experience with this? My surgery was Monday.... Thanks all.

Reglan is a miracle drug if you ask me. It helps with nausea and tummy pains and also has a secondary action of increased gastric motility. After surgery people are generally backed up so this works in a variety of ways. im a nurse.....reglan does wonders for me. As far as gas pains its common after surgery and you will have them for a while....i suggest gas x strips...they worked well for me

So with my symptoms, what is this drug supposed to accomplish? I have burping that hurts and constant left chest pain and feels like a knife stabbing me when I take a deep breath..... all focused on my left side. It shoots up into the shoulder and neck as well. Thank you so much for your input... ;)

you are describing exactly what it feels like to have the gas. your doctor is prescribing the medications because this is what has helped with other patients. warm fluids, walking, heating pads will all help too. i take prescription strength pepcid. it's what i was started on in the hospital when i started vomiting. perhaps you wouldn't need to take the medications for long. he just wants to get you over the hump i think. get to walking. even if it hurts. also don't forget pain medication. i am sure you were sent home with a prescription. good luck

Sorry you are having this pain -- many of us got the left shoulder/chest pain but it does get better. Mine hurt most getting out of bed -- I sleep on the left side. I was able to just ride through it, did do the heating pad thing and even ice, which helped a lot. My husband thought maybe the pain was positional from the surgery as well as the gas -- who knows. I did not want to take narcotics so just had ibuprofen and Tylenol. The thing that absolutely helps the most is walking. It's not easy sometimes to motivate but the twinges sure are motivating. My body needed me to walk -- a lot. I started in the hospital corridor then at home around our driving circle. One day I walked 40 times around the circle. It really really helps.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
