10 Days Left In No-Band-Land (Exciting Times Ahead)

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm LuluDemon99 and I just found this website today. And I am SUPER happy I did. I have been looking for a place online to keep track of my progress and record some of the things I am going through so I can look back and reminisce (one fine day).

I am having the LAP-Band surgery on December 18th at the NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC - AND I AM SO EXCITED!! Dr. George Fielding is doing my surgery - if my liver is skinny enough. I have been thinking of having some type of surgery for 8+ years and can't actually believe its happening now.

I am on day 4 of my pre-op diet and it is harrrrrdddddd. I am doing 1000cals p/day of low sugar/low carb Protein Shakes as well as 2 cups of vegetables. I am stlll finding a shake that I like. So far Muscle Milk Light vanilla is the worst, MML chocolate is ok, and Carnation sugar free Breakfast Essentials and Glucerna shakes are the best.

I spent today clearing my fridge of all the things I can't eat until after my surgery (Coke, pizza, Orange juice, eggs etc.) and also making some Carrot, Spinach and Mushroom Soup with Low-Sodium chicken broth. It tastes ok but it's much better with a little Glucerna Chocolate shake in it. Sounds weird I know.
Anyway, more on my 'My Story' page. Excited to be on this thread!

Welcome! I echo previous posters... This is a very friendly and supportive site full of great people with much knowledge to share.

The pre op stage blows, doesn't it? Happily, it doesn't last too long. Mine was three frakking weeks... But I survived. :D You will, too. And soon you will have your band. :)

Welcome Lulu. I was also banded at NYU and my surgeon was Fielding's wife...Dr. Ren. I will echo what others have said. This is a great site and you will find lots of support here. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions per the surgical group or the hospital.

Welcome lulu. I am originally from Ny but live in Ft Lauderdale. In February I will have my lapband 4 years and have lost 96 lbs in 15 months.

I am quite direct, and would like to comment on the foods that you removed from fridge, Mainly coke, pizza, they will not be good for you after the banding. This is what my Dr told me: no: potatoes, rice, bread, pizza, Pasta, soda, Cookies, cakes, pies, I have not had them for 4 years. Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. But, I personally feel that with out these very high carbs you will do better than if you eat them. Also, I found that "premier protein" shakes are my favorite. Our training was low carb, high Protein. Carbs turn to sugar, sugar makes us fat, and makes us look for more carbs to eat. Protein helps us stay fuller, we need about 1/2 our weight in protein per day. YOU WILL DO FINE, ANY TIME YOU WANT MORE HELP JUST HOLLER. Ilene

Thank you all so much for your responses!! I feel very lucky to have found such a supportive community. I'm sure this is going to make it much easier for me. I have already learned a lot and will be checking in regularly.

GoWalking I will definitely PM you, thanks!! And Illene, thanks for the tips, sadly I know pizza and coke are off the menu for me forever. I'll just be restocking the organic eggs!

8 days left un-banded! Off home to finish the last 2 shakes of the day. Good times.

Thanks again!

My dear lulu. I am so surprised that no one pounded me for telling you no no no for those things. Regarding pizza, it has crust that usually is thick and with the band it is very hard to chew up so it will fit thru the opening. Most likely lapbanders are still eating pizza with sauce and yummy cheese . I think sauce and cheese is fabulous. , the Pizza Crust is a so sticky being made from white flour.

There are so many new ideas to having pizza, even using cauliflour for a crust is possible. Substitutions for lapbanders is really no different than for weight watcher.

And Miss Lulu, once you have the lapband. And see how not only fantastic you look. You won't even want any of that fattening stuff.

I am not a young girl like you are, I needed to make the time I had to better myself. That was why I was so strict, and I am happy that I was,

You are such an open person. I know you will do fantastic. Hugs Ilene.

Hi Ilene: Nope...I think you were correctly responding to lulu. She's the newbie who started this thread..I just posted to let her know I was also banded at NYU. And your explanation of why pizza can be a problem is spot on. How's the weather in Fort Lauderdale? My folks are in Aventura.

Thanks for letting know. Lol. I am going to be interviewed on wed. About me and the surgery. Yep, I am very scared, and nervous. But I know my rules. I am a leader in a lapband surgery group in sparkepeople.com. I am like their mother. They call me momma grok. Lol the weather here is nice and it is warm. Do u ever go to ft Lauderdale? Hope to meet you someday. We live in Tamarac, take care. I have some reviewing to go thru, and what to wear??

I go to my aunt and uncle in Sunrise, and of course, I go to Sawgrass to shop. My late in-laws lived in Tamarac and then moved to Lauderhill...in a development not far from University and Commercial. Good luck on your interview!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
