I Have Two Stupid Questions... I'm Sorry...but

Recommended Posts

1. Can I brush my teeth the day of surgery? My book says no mints or gum. So I'm lost.

2. Do I need to fast for my pre ops?

Thanks y'all!

I was allowed to brush my teeth. In fact, in my pre-surgery paperwork, it was listed to thoroughly brush teeth and tongue.

Before surgery, it's required no food/drink.

Basically, before surgery, they don't want any food or liquids in your stomach, which can cause you to vomit during surgery, due to the anesthesia upsetting the stomach.

. Do I need to fast for my pre op

tjlove23

i had to ask my doc about eating prior to WLS

didn't make me lose weight (phew....)

just said "don't gain any weight!!! ;)

but....i wish i had put myself on liquids for at least a couple of days pre WLS

instead of me going on a couple of funeral meals

comment you hear on the board is

"the one thing we all have in common, is that we're all different!!)

ask your doc - and he will/should answer all your question

"we're" all here to give advice, thoughts "words of wisdom" ;)

keep coming to the board with your questions, and read other questions that may be things you are also wondering about!!!!

but.........your doc has the final "educated" words you should listen to

sounds" like the big day is aproaching!!!!

good luck

speedy recovery

My surgeon let me brush my teeth as long as I didn't swallow anything, which I didn't. As far as a pre-op diet, I'd ask your surgeon...

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't referring to my pre op diet. To clarify, I meant my pre operative appointment done a few weeks before surgery.(test and bloodwork). I'll email the doc and refer back to my packet. Thanks y'all.

I had my pre-op bloodwork on Tuesday, and it was not fasting.

i did not fast for my pre surgical testing. I was allowed my pre op diet the day before the surgery but i was so nervous that all i had was tea and broth all that day.

At my pre surgical testing i was given 2 pepcid pills and instructed to take one the night before the surgery with Water and i was to take one the morning of the surgery with one sip of Water so there would not be any acid in my stomach.

i brushed teeth as usual.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
