Hi everyone,

My surgery is set for Tuesday, Dec 10. I've been on a mostly liquid diet since day after Thanksgiving. I've been doing Protein shakes and one meal of solid Protein (chicken, fish, eggs) daily. I was told to do 2 weeks of all liquids but after researching I decided on my own to modify a little. I've been having one low carb yogurt a day and lots of Water and splenda tea. Lots of sugar free popsicles too. I decided to go all liquids tomorrow and Monday to get ready for the big day.

Cheating? Yes, 2 pieces of toast and a small Wendy's fries. The best carbs I EVER tasted! LOL

I am a bit nervous, I had a lap band 5 years ago, so I'm a revision. The worst thing about that surgery? Those god-awful TED hose!!!! I buzzed the nurse about every 30 minutes to come pull up my socks...heehee.

Good luck to all of you fellow December sleevers!!

Janet

Its 2am. I'm scared and my stomach is a wreck just from the anxiety. I go in Tuesday at 6 am. Just afraid something will go wrong and my baby boys won't have their Mommy. I'm low risk, no health problems besides the weight. Still no rational discussion with myself seems to put me at ease. Especially when I look at their little faces. Feeling alone.

You are not alone, exact scenario here: healthy with no co-morbities. The only difference is that I have two little girls instead of boys.;) It is also 2AM and I am awake too, sounds familiar? My surgery is Dec 16th 7:30AM.

I found it helpful to read the VSG Veteran's threads - mostly positive feedback and life changing stories. I am drawn to surgery complication posts, but they are not helpful at this stage. I try to remind myself that I did my research, I did pick a good surgeon/hospital, I am educated on the signs of trouble and now I just have to follow all directions and stay positive.

Visualization helps me too. When I start to get anxious, I close my eyes and picture all the great moments to come: my girls proud of me at the school exit, a family tennis match, comfy plane rides, running into former co-workers and friends, feeling healthy, vibrant and full of energy again, great sex ;).

I am also writing letters to my daughters (just in case...), explaining that I believe in fate, and I have faith that you only leave this earth when your time comes. So, if something happens, it was going to happen whether I had surgery or not. This gives me great comfort.

Best of luck, let's stay in touch!

Well tomorrow is my surgery. Woke up this morning very nervous! Held my husband tight and cried. Told him I was nervous. He said he was as well. I know I am doing the right thing it is just the fear of the unknown! The fear of being the 1% that something may go wrong. But I am a firm believer in thy will be done and have left it up to the hands of God. I wish my fellow Dec 9th sleevers good luck and a speedy recovery!

Hi there, my date is set for December 17th. At first I was excited, but now I'm nervous. I've been on the pre-op diet and I hate it! I have not cheated yet which has surprised me. I just found out last week that my insurance approved the surgery and my surgeon was able to get it scheduled before the end of the year. I have been working on getting my package submitted to the insurance for months and now that I'm approved I feel rushed! My boss was really upset that I was taking time off during the holidays. Also- I've been very open about my plans of getting surgery and 95% of the people that I have told have said " Why, you are not THAT fat?" What does THAT fat mean? My BMI was definitely high enough to qualify. I really don't feel supported by my family or friends.

Another newbie here...GOOD LUCK AND MUCH SUCCESS to all the December Sleevers. I just started reading the posts today and instantly felt like I belonged. I love the fact that it's nothing but positive support here...no judgement noted. My big day is Dec 27. Eventhogh I never felt like a loser, for the first time in life I am looking forward to being a LOSER (of weight). So excited for a chance to get it off and keep off.

My surgery is Tuesday 12/10 and I'm extremely nervous too. Additionally not looking forward to 2 weeks on liquids post op. The shakes make me gag and I've tried many kinds. Also I tried my chewable Vitamins, Calcium and Vitamin D and they all suck. Can't image chewing those nasty things for the rest of my life.

I'm second guessing my decision tonight but know I need to do this.

I'm second guessing my decision and getting cold feet (literally & figuratively) as well especially now that my surg data has been delayed to dec 12 tentatively due to a last minute sleep study requirement.....

I've been a yoyo dieter for over 15 years (I'm only 31) and just sick and tired of being sick and tired .... I've lost lots of weight on my own only to quickly balloon back to the morbid obesity and obese categories

I started researching WLS in July and weighed around 248 at the time .... Gained some due to stress eating and hit 259.... Then got serious about my diet and fitness and managed to lose 23 pounds in just under 2 months (I'm at 236 today). I feel amazing!!!!!!

I joined weight watchers a few weeks ago and love the support and guidance and really am on a good healthy track NOW but I have a track record of being really disciplined and then BAM I fall off and regain more than I lost despite all the hard work

I'm nervous nervous nervous as times moves closer but also excited about what my new life will bring about for longevity and better quality of life

Should I or shouldn't I!??? That's what I struggle with in my head and heart ..OY!!

OMG, It's December 9, and my day to be sleeved. Slightly nervous, more afraid he'll open me up and decide he can't do the surgery for some reason. We put up our Christmas tree tonight, and I cleaned the house. Like everyone else I'm afraid I'll have complications, but I know this is the right thing for me. Sure am hoping my Thanksgiving cheat won't come back to haunt me. I've also eaten the chicken and carrots in my broth! No noodles or rice though. Had half a scrambled egg yesterday morning. True confessions time. It's 12:48 and I'm sitting here with another load of laundry in the washer, kitty on my lap, my French exchange student and my son all here working on our laptops listening to Christmas Carols. I don't want to go to sleep, feel there is too much to do. I've lost 14 pounds on the liquid diet over the last 2 weeks. Gosh, my day is finally here. Can't wait to be on the losers bench, less than 12 hours away. Best of health to my fellow 12/9 folks, and I'll post as soon as I'm able to after the surgery. Group hug!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
