Day Two, Insanity: I don't think there is any weight lifting in Insanity, is there? I'm a little worried that cardio will slow down my weight loss, as we all know that it is really weight lifting/building muscle that speeds up the metabolism and burns fat. Insanity is gonna hurt though, that's for sure.

From what others posted, there seemed to be a lot of full body exercises though, no? Using your own body weight?

It seems that way, today was only day two plus it was backward - yesterday we did cardio and today we did our intake "fit test", because the guy running it didn't have that dvd yesterday. So anyway, that's all I've seen so far and I don't know anything about Insanity so am going into this blissfully ignorant. I'm just worried that doing cardio will slow down my weight loss. Example, I only ate like 500 cals yesterday but when I weighed myself this morning I was "up" .6 of a pound! grrrr.

Working out almost always causes weight gain in the days following. The primary reason is that Protein synthesis pulls Water into the muscles as part of the conversion of carbohydrates and fat into glycogen. Muscles will use this glycogen in the process of protein synthesis. And so the cycle continues and effects on the body are additive, meaning that you will see a net loss over time (e.g. a few days, a week, a month, etc. For this reason, it is best not to gauge the effectiveness of a workout solely on scale weight, especially the next day. <br><br><br><br><br>

Also you need to eat enough calories and enough carbohydrates to fuel the workout. Insanity is going to require a lot of carbohydrates in order not to hit a wall during a workout or, worse, blackout, as you have stated almost happened a few times on your first day. Your body will work against you if it does not have enough fuel to support the expenditure of energy, as a defense mechanism, so eating is very important. No starvation diets if you want to reap the benefits. Not only will 500 calories cause you to hit a wall during a workout, but continually eating at such a deficit is going to put your metabolism into hibernation (you are 3 + years post op; I would not say the same thing to a 4 month post op individual). <br><br><br><br><br>

Good luck on your insanity program. It should be a good one and will help you change body composition in addition to weight loss.

Snowed 6 inches here last night...I need to get to the gym since I can't walk outside.

Limited shoveling since I'm 2.5 weeks out, but did what I could to get the car cleaned off enough for safe driving...the car has been warming up for 1/2 hour!

Such dedication to this challenge!!!!!! :-)

Would this be the wrong time to mention I'm in key west where the high is 79 degrees?

Anyone know how to get formatting to work right on android phones? HTML tags instead of WYSIWYG. Hope this bug gets fixed soon because it make reading posts harder then it needs to be.

Uhm yeah!!!!! LOL. OMG - it's cold here. when I say cold, I mean 11 degrees. And so much snow to shovel in order to get my car out of the driveway! But I made it to the gym and did 2 miles on the treadmill.

I lived in FL for 15 years, but never made it to Key West. We lived over in the Tampa area. Miss it this time of year!

I may as well not be in Key West. I'm stuck indoors, didn't think to bring a swimsuit, and on conference calls from hell. So don't be too jealous :)

OK - I feel better that we are in misery together. I telecommute from home, so I'm back in the home office with hot tea looking out at the snow!

I hope you're doing well! I'm recovering and feeling better each day. Tired, but feeling better.

I haven't gotten to explore any of it, so I'm just going to have to come back. The slivers of ocean I can see from my room sure are beautiful :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
