Pre-Op Liquid Aggravation...

Recommended Posts

I have to do two weeks liquid before surgery and today is my forth day. I'm at the point where i just want to gag. Five shakes a day, Water, crystal light and sugar free Jello. I'd rather just drink straight water, crystal light taste nasty to me. Anywho, i here others talk about Optifast Soup but my doctor wants shakes only. If sleeve is sleeve everywhere why don't the doctors follow the same pre op. Some doctors have no liquids, one day, one or two weeks. I need to vent!!!

There's no reason you can't have plain Water, you don't have to have crystal lite.

I would add some broth for a change of taste. broth is just flavored Water. Get broth with salt -- you need the salt and it will give you energy.

During my preop I would go to restaurants and get chicken noodle, French onion or veggie Soup and ask for just the broth. Everyone was very accommodating. Panera bread is really good for broth-based Soups.

I too had a 2 week all liquid pre op diet allowing exactly the same items you listed. My surgery was back on October 22. My diet began October 6.

Yesterday was my first real bite of food. I went a good 7 weeks on shakes, jello, propel zero, and half that with yogurts in there.

My surgeon said the pre op diet is for two reasons...one is to shrink your liver. Another is as he said...the higher your bmi the higher chance you have of a complication. So he said that the pre op was very very important to the folks that have the bmi in the 60 and higher range.

I know it stinks some days to have the shakes. Those days I flavored them with sf Torani syrups. Or I'd just focus on water or the propel zero.

It's for a good reason, so try to just wake up with the mantra ...it's going to be a great day drinking Protein Shakes today. I had to do that and it helped me out.

A little positive reinforcement went a long way with me.

Hi, I am just signing up but what scares me is the thought that I can't get my stomach back and I wonder about loose skin.

Welcome!!! I would rather work with the loose skin then to continue be overweight. If you type in loose skin in the search section you can see pics of people who's been sleeved. Good Luck

Did you lose any weight?y doctor wants me to lose 20 pounds in two weeks

I was on the pre-op liquids for 2.5 weeks and I think I lost 16 lbs. How much you lose really depends on how much you have to lose to start with. I started out needing to lose 80 lbs, and after 6 months, I have lost 60.

The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver, and to get you ready for the post-op liquid diet. My surgeon said my liver was really small, "perfect", he said. And I had NO complications following surgery. No real pain, no vomiting, no nausea, no heartburn. If I didn't have 5 funny little scars on my tummy and the inability to eat very much food, I might think the whole thing never happened. Best decision I ever made and I feel fantastic!

Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
