Hi Lovebug, I had the upper left shoulder/chest area pain -- I think it's quite common to have trapped gas there. Walking through it helped me. Also using a heating pad, and one day ice packs really did the trick. I didn't take the narcotic pain meds as they just create new problems and I think they actually slow healing, but I did take Tylenol and Ibuprofen as needed. Glad you're doing so well -- congratulations on this great start to your new banded life!

Hi lovebug! I'm 4 weeks post op today and I also had a hernia repair at the same time as the LB. I suffered with a lot of left quadrant pain and originally, and based on what I read on this forum, I believed it to be gas pains from the air they pump into my body during surgery. When I went for my 10 day post op with my doc he said that the sharp pain in my left side is actual nerve pain. That nerve pain is still a daily presence although it's not all day long and it shoots beyond my chest and shoulder up into my neck and the outside of my ear - it's burning sharp pain. Doc said it will likely take 6 weeks maybe even 3 months to completely heal. Of all the pains, that has been the hardest to deal with. The pain meds to make it feel better but then the hangover and bowl issues isn't really worth it that come with the pain meds ... I have my first fill on Dec. 2nd and looking forward to talking to the doc about the nerve pain - kind of unfortunate - but I knew this wouldn't be easy. Sure enough, not so easy - but the scale is going in the right direction.

I hope this helps - I'm experiencing the same and still 4 weeks later.

A couple of other things that are a bit extreme for me personally is the pure fact of foreign objects in my body - my incision is still pretty sore and right underneath I can totally feel my port and I honestly believe I can feel the band too - my abdomen is very hard in a few spots.

I am still very UNrestricted as far as food going down my esophagus and into my stomach - I can gulp drinks (albeit I try not to b/c I believe this will go away with the fills) - I've gone in and out of different levels of hunger - I've been off all sugars and little to no carbs with no cheating... but feel like I need to be strict with myself until my fills get me to the green zone. I have to say I'm more hungry than I thought I would be but staying strong and mostly eating high Protein dense food like chicken, fish and turkey.

so....this is probably more than what you were asking but it's nice to report on my condition at 4 weeks post op.

Cheers!

Good morning!

I used the heating pas for 14 days after surgery. Just felt better ever time I relaxed in my recliner. I had it handing over the back and them when I came to bed I would being it.

It will pass. Good luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
