Post Op meeting protein/fluid requirements

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on Wednesday and I was just wondering how others get there fluid/protein requirements in? I feel like I am constantly shoving something down my throat and I am always feeling full. I am supposed to get 60-80 grams of Protein in a day and even drinking the supplements it is hard. I want more Water than anything else I am thirsty!!!! Am I expecting to much to soon?

I also had surgery on Wednesday. My surgeon told me not to worry about anything except getting my fluids in. We will worry about the Protein after I meet with him in 10 days.

At first, it's just about getting in fluids. I did broth and Protein Drinks only - trying for 90 grams of Protein a day early on was a pipe dream for me, but then things got better as each day passed. Just try to stay hydrated at this point! No kidding, I started with shot glasses of liquids and would keep track that way at first, things went down so slowly. :)

I was sleeved on Wednesday too. The first full day home (Thursday) was very hard getting Protein in but I managed to get about 25g. Yesterday 35g today almost 50g. Gotta work harder on Fluid.< /p>

Frozen Protein Shakes. Spoon them in like ice cream.

My doc wanted me to get in Water first, minimum of 60oz a day. So I just sipped and sipped every day... I didn't always make it. And I never worried about trying to get in the recommended amounts of Protein during the 1st 2 weeks. I could barely eat a teaspoon full of broth every 15 minutes. The doc said his recommended protein and water levels were goals to shoot for once I got into the puree and full food stage - around week 3 or 4 post-op.

I was sleeved on 11-18 and am having a very hard time getting fluids in. I am walking every 2 hours and taking my pain meds on the 4 hr mark. Omeprazole every morning and some Mylanta when the gas makes me nauseated. I started with the shot glass to help me realize I can only swallow about a 1/2 teaspoon at a time. Now I am holding my glass and sipping 2 tiny swallows every 5-10 minutes. I have been working on an 8 ounce Protein Shake for about 2 hours and am almost done. I am so thirsty and know I am not getting enough fluids.grrr so frustrating!!!=(

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
