Will I have a pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I have my nutrition evaluation on the 4th of November. Is that when you typically get your pre-op diet instructions? I have a friend that used the same dr. and she said she didn't have to do a pre-op diet.

Will I regret not doing one?? Help!

From what I've read, whether or not you have a pre-op diet depends on your insurance requirements and your doctor. Some people have reported not having a pre-op diet and others have to go on a 6 month supervised diet to satisfy insurance requirements.

My doctor put me on a 7 day pre-op diet, it was probably so short because I wanted to get the surgery over with ASAP and my insurance approved my application within 5 days. I have sleep apnea, which is considered a co-morbidity and automatically qualified me under my insurance.

It would not have made a difference if I hadn't done the pre-op diet. It's main purpose is to shrink the fatty deposits in your liver and make it easier for the surgeon to get under it and get at your stomach.

I was put on a two week pre op diet it isn't to do with insurance it's to help you! it is always best

to loose weight prior to surgery and it is called a liquid diet so that you can shrink your liver.. for your own safety!!!

my diet was: 3 Protein shakes a day..

with 2 flu stones complete chewable Vitamins and a dissolvable B12 under my tongue.. and I could also have 1 smart food/lean cuisine meal for dinner.. no tea, no juice, no soda, no energy or sports drink but at minimum 64oz of Water a day..

My first surgeon was going to put me on a 14 day diet, but the one I changed to doesn't require it, just Clear Liquids the day before surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
