Any Washington State Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I am pretty busy this time of year and just had a relative pass away after an intense round with brain cancer...but when fall comes I would be interested and can help put something together. I was visualizing perhaps a meeting somewhere like Bothell and a second one more like the south end - not sure if federal way is far enough south. My thought was sort of two groups maybe they each meet once a month or every other month but different dates in cases there are people who would go to each. I liked that someone suggested seatac but I wouldn't go that far regularly -would surely do it once for a kickoff though! Don't mean to be a wet blanket but there are existing awesome support groups out there that welcome people regardless of where they had surgery. Just as a practical question....why would people prefer this group over those?

I attend two support groups. One in federal way and the other in Lakewood. Both are great as a structured meeting. The NUT in both support groups lead the meetings and 1/2 hr is dedicated to some sort of presentation or a speaker. Second 1/2 hr is open for questions from the group. This is a good format to learn about the WLS program. That is not what I was looking for in this new group that we have discussed here. I am more interested in an informal meetup with people who have went through or will be going through WLS. Meeting and making friends with those of us that have common experiences while going through our journeys would be nice. I personally have not shared that I have had the surgery so I get strange looks when I eat 2 oz of food when we go out to dinner. This group would relate to the fact that food is no longer priority in our lives. I don't even care if we don't talk WLS at all when we get together. Instead just make friends and enjoy the company of those that know what we are going through.

Hello all again! In so happy to see the manny new voices on here! I love that a support group is coming together.

Since we where talking about locations, i live in west seattle, alki to be exact. Alki beach is a lovely place to walk, and sit and chat. Just another option.

I am currently going to one group, but until i actually have surgery, i don't find the group as supportive as i want. Anyway, i also do not have any wheels, so that makes it harder for me to commute. Carpool maybe?

Anyway! This is great!

Dylan

Thanks, that makes sense. I went to support groups preop but only one post op. Decided I am not a support group kinda person but I can surely see the value of what you are talking about.

I live in the Woodinville area too.

I have been to one post op support group at NWWLS, they are a good group of folks.

I am up for a local mixed group meeting, but due an odd working schedule, frequent travel / odd hours, I am afraid I wouldn't be able to attend meetings that are too far south...

If you are interested in a meet up respond here with dates and times that are best for you. We can then select the date and time that works best for everyone interested in meeting. I am fine with driving up to Seattle area. West Seattle has great restaurants that are bariatric friendly. I just went to a pizza place that let's you order 1 meatball in marinara sauce for only$2. Ha. It was delicious! I will meet whenever it is most convenient for everyone else. I am traveling in Sept though so a meetup in Oct would be better for me.

Mmm meatballs :) I had my gallbladder removed last night and go under again in a couple hours for stones in my biliary tract, I haven't had anything to eat since yesterday and meatballs sound so good :)

I'm good to meet up on the weekend anytime:)

My husband (fiddleman) and I are also interested in a WA meet up- we both had the sleeve and my younger sister will be sleeved before the year is up. We all live north of Seattle in the Everett area- however, like CowgirlJane, we can travel to the locations she mentioned. Hope there is a concrete get together soon....would love to meet some of you!

The name of the restaurant in West Seattle that serves the individual meatballs ($2 ea) is Talarico's. I have to travel to SD to help my mother pack and relocate to Washington so will be gone for a few weeks. I have a few days (sept 8-12) available before I head out. Otherwise I will return on Oct 4 and can meet up any time after that.

I'd be up for a meetup if presurgery folks are welcome. I'm in north Seattle.

I was self pay and I looked into two places to do the surgery. The first one was St Francis and the second was Puget Sound Bariatric Center in Everett. I went with PSBC because I liked the staff better and the price was reasonable. The St Francis staff kept changing the price on me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
