next week Thursday, 10 am.

:P just kidding

When was your surgery? What is in your surgeon or NUT's guidelines? Go by their guidelines!!

There'e an ongoing debate here about whether carbonation is damaging to the sleeve once it's healed. Certainly if you have just recently had your surgery, carbonation is out of the question, because it could hurt you and/or do some damage to your healing tummy. But if you're several months out.....well.... some people indulge, others swear i will stretch the sleeve, some have tried and found it painful.

I'm about 5 months out and have had calorie free, very light carbonation a handful of times. If I drank too quickly it was uncomfortable. The way I see it, I will be doing right by my body if I can get off unnatural, carbonated beverages (this includes diet AND regular). Water is best really, and I'm trying to develop good new habits while I'm in this period. I worked really hard to get my sleeve, and for the progress I've made so far. Coca cola bottling company doesn't deserve my support -- they helped get me to a point where I needed surgery in the first place!

I think it best to ask the clinic or doctor that you went to. Carbonation and the sleeve don't mix.

But I see a lot of people here that continue to eat the way they did before so I guess if you wanted to its possible.

My surgery was 9/18 I think the two things I miss most is the crunch of chips and carbonated drinks. I was told no no well the book says no. But I know several sleevers who have beer and sodas.. but I think I'm to scared to try. I know or I think I know our stomach can't stretch or bust but it still scares me.

I don't know but I do know that I'm addicted to Coke/Diet Coke/Coke Zero and won't be able to stop if I start, so I'm steering clear!

Diet soda does bubble in your throat at first. Or of u drink it to fast u will puke. I'm bad and drink one small one a day. I hate coffee and everything else and I don't sleep good and have a daycare. So I need the caffeine.

I have sips of diet pop every once in a while. Sometimes when my teen daughters order a regular coke I have a sip of that too. I have had absolute no problems with it.

Even at 9 weeks I can't handle carbonation at all. I desperately wanted to try a tiny taste of beer at a recent festival and thought I was going to puke. No carbonation for Sleevette.

Thank you so much you all for responding. I must just be going through a phase. I have did a lot trying to get the sleeve and it would be foolish. I'm going to turn the other cheek.

I am 6 months out-and I will be honest-I've had diet sodas, sparkling waters, and yes-even beers. I don't have them every day, once a week is fine with me. When I had my first one, it did give me heartburn, but now, there's hardly any problem.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
