Multiple Ab surgeries/recent diagnosis RA

Recommended Posts

People who have had multiple abdominal surgeries before having the sleeve and anyone with RA who has had the sleeve. I need testimonies from folks who have or had these issues prior to sleeve surgery.

I had a 20 yr old 6 inch scar where they took out my gall bladder. The surgeon took an extra 15 minutes for the sleeve surgery trying to cut thru scar tissue. My pain after surgery was very bad for at least 3 days. It was an 8 when I woke up.

I've had 2 c-sections plus an open emergency abdominal procedure, so my bariatric and vascular surgeons consulted prior to my surgery (which is happening in about 3 hours!) they were looking for scar tissue and/or strictures. We are hoping that the scar tissue won't be an issue and that the surgery will be able to be done laparoscopically, but if it can't be done, I'll have another open procedure. Hoping for the best, either way. Good luck to you!

I have had three abdominal surgeries all vertical cuts almost the length of a ruler. I know there is serious scar tissue. I was Aldo diagnosed with RA. As far as pain goes. As long as the sleeve does not leak and the surgery itself goes ok.. I will deal with the pain. Maybe a good pain med to help me sleep through it...

I am a newbie and at gone beginning stages of this process. Anyone with any info regarding Sleeve and RA as well as other multiple surgeries before having sleeve will be appreciated and helpful.

BTW, my docs ordered a CT scan to look for the strictures and scar tissue...

I won't even try lap scope because my last surgery I was one of the first people up and the doctor wanted to do it lap scope.. I held up the surgery room for 5 hours because they had to cut me open. So my surgery held up all the surgeries that day and I felt bad about it. So I won't even venture the lap scope.

Praying for your surgery to go well!!! God bless. I will be eager to hear that you are ok and surgery went well!

I have had a C section, 3 hernia repairs, my lt. Ovary removed and my gall bladder out. My surgeon was still able to do the surgery laparoscopically. It just depends. I was fully anticipating having that I would wake up to find the surgery was done open, but instead pleasantly surprised to see the 4 little incisions instead :)

Prior to this surgery, I had 3 c-sects, gall bladder, appendix , ovary and tubes removed, and prior removal of adhesions (extra scar tissue) . These were all done at different times. I have had zero issues with my laparoscopic sleeve surgery and my surgeons did not anticipate any problems either. I have 5 new small incisions to add to collection all over my abdomen. I wish you luck!

I have had an open partial hyst followed by a lap gall bladder, and ovary removal...so three surgeries. I was afraid I would have to have it open too...no problem. I also have RA. Have had it for three years. The weeks ahead of surgery were rough as my RA meds had to be stopped, but after surgery my body was busy working on the surgery site and left my joints alone. Now that I am about 7 weeks out my RA has reared it's ugly head again. Working on getting my meds back on track...but this summer wasn't good for my meds(I had shingles before surgery as well....basically off and on my meds all summer long). I won't say the loss so far has cured my RA, but I do know that I feel better with it....my joints still hurt but it is better...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
