Does eating out become awkward after VSG?

Recommended Posts

Doesn't bother me...I don't tell them I don't want Water. I just let it sit in front of me and usually order and eat off my hubby's plate. We just tell them we are splitting it

I was just in Disneyland for 2 days and all I did was eat out. It wasn't awkward, but I have had experiences where I ask to order off the kids menu and both places asked me if there was a reason for it (which I thought was ridiculous. One said she had to ask her manager if it was okay. Seriously?!) But, I usually just order a'la carte or something small...or split it with someone. I don't really drink when I eat, but there are times I need to take a sip just to wash it down. So, I usually have Water or ice tea with me there anyway.

The most awkward thing about eating out socially is when someone doesn't know that I've had the surgery and they notice how little I've eaten. I've been out with people I'm not close enough to to want to share that I've had weight loss surgery be very concerned with the fact that I didn't eat much. Others didn't know and kept giving me food and I had to kindly decline and explain that I couldn't eat anymore, which they didn't really understand.

The worst thing is I already know my mom will be my worst critic! I just had my sleeve in the 8th and she ordered pizza for my son and husband last night and has delivered to our house! It's not their fault I was fat and had the surgery......but common mom,,seriously?!?!?!

I travel a lot for work. I haven't had any awkwardness with clients, but sometimes when I am eating by myself at a restaurant, I have had awkward conversations with the server.

Mainly it is due to the staff being worried that something was wrong with them meal. To counter that, when the meal comes, I sometimes ask for a box right away.

It's not awkward but I don't enjoy it as much. Hard to eat slowly when everyone else is eating fast. Then my tummy gets upset.

Sounds like a theme here and I follow along as well. I always order Water, just to have something in front of me and lots of people do that ... so it doesn't feel weird. I also focus on the appetizer or soup/salad menu ... I go out most weekend's with friends and don't have any issues. There is always someone that orders smaller portions and other only drink water, so you won't stand out ...

I dont find it awkward, in fact I am proud of how I can eat better choices now, and it is a great way to teach my kids about better health choices...though sadly they dont always share my enthusiasm lol

Funny thing is I NEVER drank with meals. My parents didn't let us only after eating. So this has always been my normal. I always found it weird when people request drinks with food. Having the sleeve has brought a lot of adjustments but this has been then easiest.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
