My positive thoughts: I am greatful for the weight I have lost so far. I feel. And look so much better. I am so much more active and energetic. I felt good restriction ( I was getting full on small amounts of food) for the first 3 month post plication. I want to lose about 35-40 more pounds, I feel like I will reach that within the next 6 months, and I am happily looking forward to that.

My complaints:

I don't have much restriction at all now at 10 month out, and have actually gained weight over the holidays. I have lost a lot of weight, but I have had to work so bleeping hard! I am on my treadmill ALL THE TIME. I also go the the gym. I still have to write everything that I eat down, count calories, and most days it is hard for me to stay at 1500 calories. I could easily eat 2000 or more calories a day, not because I sit around eating junk, but because I simply no not feel full on small amounts of food anymore. I think the only thing stopping me from gaining all my weight back is my own sheer determination. It was also be so sad for me to be the girl who had wls, and failed, and wasted $10k. I think plication got me on track, and helped be get my first 50 pounds off. From here on out my weight loss is 100 percent on my shoulders. I don't think I have a tool at all anymore. I wish I had done the regular sleeve. I am going to try to stay positive. I am going to be thankful that plication helped meget off that first 50 pounds so that I could start exercizing and developing healthy habits. I hope this helps someone who is considering plication. Typed on my iPad, please excuse all the mistakes.

it's diffucult to read this. I hope I'm not there in few months, .

I think I just clocked 7 months out last Friday. Overall trend is to lose. My exercise committment has waned with bad weather (1 hour every other day walking and 3x circuit training each week, weather permitting). Both suffer during winter. I just need the sleep during the depths of winter. It's hindered my weight loss with rainy days and days where I just can't get outside.

I can't speak for anyone else. I still have restriction. My overall trend is downward. The slope is less steep. Had my lowest weight last week, then had nearly a 9 lb flucuation upward a few days later. A lot of it is Water weight for me.

Keep at it.

LMom,

I'm so sorry that you are struggling as you are. I also agree that the surgery helped me to get the first 50 lbs off and that the rest of it is up to me now. However, when my husband and I were discussing whether or not I should have ANY type of weight loss surgery, one of the things we said was "If it can just give me a jump start on the weight loss, then I could take it from there". Maybe I was being unrealistic, but I was feeling so STUCK that I just needed to lose a bunch of weight quickly right off the bat to get me motivated to continue. And that's what the surgery did. O.K., so I'm having trouble with that motivation now, but I've also been dealing with hip pain, immobility, surgery, and recovery. I'm hoping to get back in gear again soon. You can do this! You are SO close!! And most people gain 6-7 lbs over the holidays without wls, so you did REALLY great! I'm glad you're staying positive and grateful for what you have done already. You're not going to be a failure! I have faith in you!! :)

I'm wondering if you did a 2-3 week liquid diet to shrink the stomach again if that could put you back on track with the feelings of restriction. I know it sounds like you are starting over, but I know a little about the physiology of the stomach and I would be very curious if this has helped anyone in this situation.

Thanks for the support and encouragement phat to fat. I am having a barium swallow by dr cottam on Wednesday. Best wishes on your recovery and getting back on track.

I might try that Linda. I'll ask the doc I see on wednesday what his thoughts are on a liquid diet start over plan. I hope you can reach your goal before you lose that great restricted feeling. I had more like 120 to lose, so Even though I lost 80, I still have a way to go, and it is very hard for a food addict to lose weight when there is not any physical restriction.

Are you having the barium swallow to determine what's going on with your lack of restriction? PLEASE let me know what the results are. Good luck!

Yes, to check out the size of my stomach, and also to determine what is causing my pain. My ultrasound didn't show gallstones,so I thought I would look into any possible stomach issues before I get the very expensive hida scan.

Is it possible that your sutures came undone? My doctor told me that if I feel little to no restriction, that is most likely the cause. Aslo, drinking while eating can stretch the stomach and reduce the restriction. Like you, I am terrified that I will fail and will have wasted a lot of precious money! I am one week post right now and feeling great with a 9.5 pound loss in the first week. Thanks for your stroy.

Lmom- I see it's been a while since your first post. How is it going? What did the tests show? My Dr does the barium every 3 months and sometimes sooner if there is a reason to look. She did tell me that this is the time when people can start stretching out their stomachs! She said the most important thing is to stop eating when you feel the first signs of being full! I am only 4 months out and still feel lots of restriction. I am struggling with the exercise part :(. I go to the gym 3 days a week and work with a personal trainer, but my Dr wants me working out 6 days a week. I have a problem with liking to watch to much tv during the day while my son naps, rather than doing housework or excersise :(. If anyone has any tricks on getting motivated.... I would love to hear them!!!

My stomach was all messed up, I had part cut out, and part re-stitched. Feeling better now. Feeling some restriction again.

Glad to hear it! I am happy you feel better and found someone to help. Was it your original doctor who did your GPS? Did they give you the option to convert to a full regular vertical sleeve?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
