Fluids/types of beverages

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone im just curious on what types of fluids we can have.. My doctor said im not allowed to have juices anymore strictly Water and sugar free beverages. My nutritionist said i could have teas but im assuming thats unsweetened or with like splenda. Are there any other options ? I went out to the fair yesterday and i was so thirsty but it seems so difficult to find anything to drink when you go out unless if its water or if you carry your own packets of senda or truvia.. Idk... I have always been like a smoothie, milkshake and orange juice fan. But im too scared to even try them ! Any ideas ?

I would really talk to your nut about this. Every doctor is different and you will get many different responses here. I would hate for you to do something against your docs orders.

Agree with Music, all doctors have their own plans you should follow... I am guessing the reason why they don't want you to have smoothies is that they will fill you up quickly and usually are high in sugar. Decaf teas are ok with my doctor and I can drink decaf coffee too. When we go out and I don't have my Water on hand, I go for unsweetened ice tea and have packet of truvia always in my purse. I like Zero Water, especially pear flavor.

There is orange juice in SAMs club that has 50 % the calories of regular one and only 6 g of sugar. I forgot how its called though.

Carry around a container of Mio Water flavoring. Then you can always find a bottle of water and flavor it. I like the strawberry watermelon one, and there's a sugar free hawaiin punch one that is awesome.

Lipton pure leaf ice tea with Splenda packets added in, orange juice with Unjury Protein mixed in.... Fairs and amusement parks are not very wls friendly....usually I just deal with Water or unsweetened ice tea when I'm out ...I literally pack a lunch cooler with drinks in it when I go out

Way before surgery I started with crystal light packets or the cheaper store variety. Right after surgery I couldnt even stand the taste of them but now I like them again. Your tastes change after surgery but if you keep trying it may work. I also drink Protein Shakes. I never did like juices or plain Water.< /p>

juice is really high in sugar and can be bad in calories so if you do drink it, they recommend I dilute it 50% juice 50% Water. smoothies can also have a ton of sugar/calories. I freaked over drinking because I was a diet coke addict. I was more worried about giving up my pop than I was my food! I've developed a taste for ice water now which surprises me. When you go without those things you are used to for a while, new things taste better. I also use Decaf tea..crystal light and crystal light lemonade. They taste strong now that I"m used to water though so I don't drink a lot of them. Watch out for Vitamin water which can also contain too much sugar.

I drink 1% milk for Protein once a day, do water- plain. I can't stand crystal light anymore! I do lots of unsweetened tea with sweet and low (I keep some in my purse all the time). I rarely do juice but on occasion I will. Mott's makes a light apple juice that I sometimes will drink- doesn't upset my stomach but does help if I'm constipated lol. Also v8 light juice blends are ok plus you get a serving of veggies in too.

I like a glass of Unsweetened Almond Milk in the morning! Vitamin Water is really good too, just make sure it's says ZERO on it or you'll find yourself in trouble.

Pretty much the same as everyone else, except my nut says I can also have diet cranberry juice. I find it too sweet - I was never a juice drinker.

My hubby makes Protein shakes with frozen fruits like strawberries and blueberries. They have a smoothie-like consistency if you add crushed ice when you're blending. Also, check out "The World According to Eggface" website. She has tons of Protein shake recipes listed. I'm sure you can find something that will satisfy your smoothie craving and at the same time add Protein to you diet.

When I used to do Optifast I would blend an envelope of the vanilla flavor w/a can of diet orange soda and crushed ice. It was think and tasted just like a creamcicle! Blending soda in the blender seemed to eliminate all the carbonation. I'm sure it would work w/ any vanilla Protein powder.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
