I had RNY on August 5th and was discharged today with an oxygen tank. I have previously been diagnosed with sarcoidosis, but never required oxygen or steroids. I've been in remission over 8 years. My blood pressure was also elevated my entire stay in the hospital. I'm currently on 3 bp pills...one can't be crushed because it's a time-released capsule. Help!!! Has anyone else seen/heard of this problem with post-op RNY patients?

I didn't go he on oxygen but on more b/p Meds which was really disappointing. I had surgery July 22 and am almost 3 weeks post op. I'm off all the b/p Meds now. Surgeon said that due to pain and my body stressed after surgery that's why my b/p was elevated. Just relax at home and focus in healing- your body will slowly adjust!! Good luck!

I had low o2 levels in the hospital ans staed an extra night and left late the next nite..didn't have to bring it home, but my o2 levels were so borderline I wonder where they are at now ...good luck I'm sure it will work itself out. Keep deep breathing and couphing an moving..

I also had low oxygen after surgery. I was sent home on oxygen and on it for two weeks after. It did go back to normal. I would not breathe deeply enough so try to remember to breathe deep.

I went home on oxygen and had to stay an extra night too. I was off the oxygen in a couple of days. I hope you feel better soon. Use deep breaths and you should be off it soon.

Hi Chloe- i think your body has gone through some stress with the surgery and all, and takes time to bounce back. Surgery/ anesthesia makes our lungs lazy, and we need to exercise them with the breathing exerciser they usually give you after surgery. When you are awake you need to do those deep breathing exercises. - 10 deep breaths every hour while you are awake until you are off oxygen. Then three times a day .

Stay in close contact with your doctor, ask him or his nurse all your questions. Make a list of everything you are concerned with, even swallowing that one pill, , maybe they can give you smaller doses to crush and take twice a day instead of that one extended release pill.

Rest and write things down- then you have it all available to ask dr to address all your concerns.

Hope you feel better soon! You are on the losers bench now and things will get better! Keep us posted. We all care about you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
