I had my surgery June 21. I am on Water and Protein Shake for 2 weeks. It is so disgusting to drink. I can't wait to actually eat. Does anyone else have a lot of pain in their left side incision? Sometimes it hurts soooo much!

Yes that's normal. Take your pain meds if its unbearable pain. But it will get better.

How regular is everyone these days? I was going every morning until yesterday. And now my stomach is queasy. Everything I eat (drink' date=' actually) makes me slightly nauseous. I tried miralax...hope that works.[/quote']

I've been having this problem for over a week now.... called the nurse this morning and they got me an appointment today. Apparently it's something my doctor is very worried about. If it persists make sure to call your doctor

I've been eating a little bit of fruit before I go to bed and that seems to help. I have like 2 1/2in cubes of cantaloupe or 1in piece of watermelon. It moves things along. Lol

Cantaloupe is a great idea because it is loaded with potassium. Great idea. I think I will get some. Im so worried about my potassium and never want an IV infusion of it ever again.

Hi everyone!! I am new here this is my first post, but have been reading the last couple of weeks! I had surgery June 21st so I'm 6 days Post-op! Biggest challenge for me is wanting to eat my wife's cooking and taking all these meds in crushed form, as well as the vitamins! I had surgery because of a huge Rt. Flank Hernia that has torn three times in the last 10 years... This time every surgeon I talked to told me they would not touch me until I lost weight! I was 320 lbs, then went down to 265 on my own... Since starting program and pre-op diets I went into surgery at 239 lbs, my goal is 180lbs so I can repair hernia and get my life back! I am diabetic, have high blood pressure, high cholestrol, and suffer from chronic back pain... I am praying this surgery will help me with all of that! Glad to join all of you in this amazing journey!

I'm not allowed fruit yet. But please keep the ideas coming! I have my two week follow up tomorrow so I'll ask doc as well.

So just finished at the doctors office. I am 3 weeks post op and was doing fine until last Thursday when I started getting nauseated. I hadn't had a bowel movement in a while so I assumed it was from that and took a laxative. It didn't help at all and my nausea has progressed to where even the slightest sip of Water makes me feel horribly sick. The Dr said the extreme nausea, vomiting, and Constipation are all signs of a stricture. So looks like I get an EGD in the morning. Hoping they can just stretch it and be done.

Had my first episode of not chewing enough and food getting stuck. I hate vomitting but oh it felt good to get it up

My surgery was June 3rd and everything went extremely well all the nurses knew who I was, I was walking at all times of the day and night... The liquid diet was not too bad I am actually on the puréed foods right now and I am scared to branch out! My dr said I can have scrambled egg whites and that did not go well I got extremely nauseous and I absolutely hate that feeling.... I am now rated Greek yogurt has so much Protein unsweetened applesauce and all I can drink is Water if I drink anything else my stomach feels weird... I am very happy and grateful for this surgery but I am just in need of support I am so uncomfortable since my pain meds are done I can't sleep I am going through crying spells and I am just soooo frustrated :(

Help :(

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
