Scared to really start exercising

Recommended Posts

I have been walking everyday since surgery. I am only 2 1/2 weeks post op but my surgeon has cleared me for all exercise. I really want to start done boxing classes and the surgeon said that would be fine. But this just seems so soon how long did others have to wait?

I haven't had my surgery yet, 2 days away. My dr. told me to start exercising 8 weeks. I assume it's just depends on the doctor and how you are feeling.

I was allowed to play soccer after 6 weeks. I played in an indoor game 6 weeks on the dot and trust me it was tough. I had no energy and had horrible dry mouth. I could not really drink Water very well and had to suck on ice. About 8 weeks out it was much easier to play. I learned to suck on the ice to stay hydrated and I started feeling like myself again.

Mine was also six weeks for anything beyond walking.

I've been swimming four times a week since my incisions were healed.

I was back at work after two and got clearance to exercise at four....depends on Dr. and how you do I think.

I got clearance to do anything I wanted after four weeks. I was a real quick healer, I had no sutures or staples, just Stri-strips. I would ease into the workout at first..just to get your body use to the exercise. I would do a little at a time then work up to a full work out. If something hurts or does not feel right then I would stop and wait. You don't want to push it, your body needs a long time to heal... you got the rest of your life to workout, rest and heal first and just take your time, its better to ease into something rather than jump right in because there is a bigger chance of injury.

My Dr. also wants me to wait. I am two weeks post op and I walk a mile twice a day. I want to get on the eliptical or use the home gym with light weight. I'll stick with using 5lb dumbbells but its driving me crazy.

I tried going back only after 2 weeks when the doc cleared me but it was too soon. I decided to wait a few more weeks. It will be 5 weeks next Tuesday and I'm starting then. Getting in the Water a few times a week and then walking on the treadmill. My incisions have healed and I feel so much better. Listen to your body cause I'm telling you I dived in way too soon and I paid the price. My stomach felt tight and now it doesn't. I so can't wait to get back into the gym.....I keep getting harassed by my friends there (in a good way of course) and can't wait to get back in the groove of things.

I think your surgeon is insane !! I'm 15 days out went to Dr. Yesterday absolutely no abdomen exercise whatsoever not until I see him in six weeks ,I'm clear for arms and legs . If it doesn't feel right don't do it.

Just because your surgeon cleared you doesn't mean you have to dive in with no preparation. If you are concerned just use your own judgment and ease into it. You DID just have major surgery, after all. Try building up your stamina gradually with other forms of exercise before actually trying boxing. Give it another two to four weeks to get strong enough so you'll get the most out of your boxing classes, and you will enjoy them more.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
