I use Unjury, they state on their site that although unflavored it still has a certain taste to it and add it to something with a strong fruity flavor...it can be added to foods for cooking but will clump at temps over 140...and also if you use a blender or shaker and it gets to foamy try spoon stirring

I've used Unjury since 2010, all flavors, and the only one I can't stand is the cheese. Also just tried the Cocotein drink which I love, but now a little scared to try it because of the 5 gm of sugar.

Is your dumping really bad?

It stopped the day before surgery. Of course nothing since then, as I'm just starting Protein, but using the Cocotein drink that I got from GNC. Also just had two tablespoons of Cream of Wheat, wasn't hungry but doing what the instructions say. Think I might have to drink some Benifiber to get things moving, then we'll see if I go into dumping again. I wonder sometimes if it wasn't some of my medications. They took me off three of them when I left the hospital. Do fantastic otherwise. Little pain not nearly as bad as yesterday. Stapled areas are starting to itch. Main surgery sight tho does hurt, I have to change bandages sometime today. When I get my nerve up.

I wish I had seen this thread sooner! I have searched the Internet looking for unflavored, easy to mix Protein Powder. Surgery was last week and I just can't stomach another vanilla or chocolate or strawberry Protein drink! I can't remember the name but finally ordered something from Amazon that got good reviews. Will let you know how it is. Anyways, love this site :-)

If you use fitness pal you can switch to less shakes more food with Protein and it does calculation for you....

I'm 8 months out 18 days down 125

Since surgery on 9/11 trying my darnest to get the Protein in along with the Fluid, do eat a little what I'm allowed to, but finally decided in order for me to get at least 60gms of protein in, I start in the morning with SF hot chocolate, cooled with about four ice cubes, and one scoop of unflavored Unjury protein. Yes, there is a smell which doesn't bother me, but I have found I like it because it doesn't make things sweeter, as do my others. I'm to the point when I make a smoothie with the flavored I add unflavored greek yogurt to cut the sweetness. I'm diluting almost everything either with ice, or anything that isn't sweet to begin with as things are way too sweet.

I don't think the soy Protein gives you the same quality of Protein as the recommended whey protein isolate. On another thread, someone posted her tested protein levels were low even though she is having 4 shakes a day and other natural Proteins. She is drinking a protein mix of 3 types of protein including soy protein, the good whey protein isolate and something else I'd not heard of before. Suggests to me these other cheaper Proteins are a waste of money and a nutritional scam.

Be cautious and ask your doctor's office about the soy protein. I don't think you're getting what you think you're getting nutritionally or for your money. Take good care of yourself!

Yeah I use my fitness pal. I know that I can do food instead of powder. But I'm asking if anyone has actually found a tasteless unflavored Protein powder... lol.

I have found the best thing a person can do is take their protein into the dietician and see if theg think its ok

Soy is an excellent source of Protein with the same digestibility score (PDCAAS) as whey, milk and egg Proteins. And since it's a vegetable protein, soy is ideal for vegetarians or vegans. Some concerns have been raised regarding hormonal effects of soy protein but clinical studies have been unable to identify any conclusive cause and effect link. The majority of doctors recommend whey as their first choice but milk, egg and soy are all good alternatives.

I use egg whites as my main Protein spires for most days. I use double pasteurized egg white made to be put in drinks. I mix it with a power aid drink and turn a 0g drink into a 49g Protein Drink. It changes the texture a little, but I don't taste it. Each pump gives you 3.3g protein. I have learned not to shake you drink after adding the egg whites as it does create a foam. Since egg whites are a whole food protein the body absorbs it easier. They make a chocolate egg white and some people think it taste like chocolate milk.

No matter how hard I try I just can't get enough Protein from real food yet. I am sure that will get better. I have used unjury unflavored in Soups etc. But, it makes it too filling and I can't finish it. Sort of defeats the purpose of extra protein!

What has worked though is blending powdered banana bariatric Protein Powder (150 cals) with 1 cup of Greek yogurt (130 cals) some ice cubes, 1 cup of Water and some stevia. It takes me a couple hours to get it down but it tastes so much better with the yogurt than without. And I am getting 50 grams of Protein. I just can't stomach the Protein drinks any more.

I don't use it every day, because I know I really need to get away from liquid calories, but it seems to be the least offensive way to get enough protein. Also, I know you should only get 20 to 30 grams at a time but it takes so long to drink that I figure I am absorbing what I need.

I hope that helps someone! We are all struggling with the same things, and I have to assume it will get better :-)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
