March 2013 Post Op "A New Life 2013"

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow marchers! I am too' date=' faced with Hair loss now. It has been falling out in chunks specially in the front. I am also getting worried about slipping back into old habits. Eating junk, drinking, not getting in Protein or Vitamins. Drinking during meals. I keep trying to remind myself why I did this and trying to curve my habits. But after a month long stall, I find myself thinking "if I am not gonna lose anything I might as well eat junk". If I eat healthy I don't lose, if I eat junk I don't lose...

I am going to a local support group tonight and remake my commitment to my new healthy life style. I hope you are all doing better than me!

HW 283. SW265. SD 3/22/13! CW 209[/quote']

You can do this! A support group sounds like a good start.

56 pounds lost in 4 months is an average of 14lbs a month! I am only averaging a loss of 10 per month and that is on the high end of my surgeons 5-10lb a month loss expectations. I read these posts sometimes and think to myself that I should be ready to throw on the towel compared to others! It really gets me down to read them sometimes when I know I am on the low end of losing and hearing how bad others feel who are actually doing "better" than me on a numbers standpoint. You have done great so far, this is not the time to give up! If you do, then I certainly need to as well!!! The scale should not be the only determining factor as to whether this journey has been a success!

You nailed it for me! I constantly beat myself up for how slow I am losing but then I have to remind myself that I am losing and that in an of itself is a miracle! I have one of the worst metabolisms my dr has ever seen in a person as active as me. I destroyed it with my band. My RMR was 975 at the time of surgery. I did Optifast for four weeks prior to surgery and lost 9 lbs. That was tough because I compared myself to ppl who lost 30 lbs in that same time period. I am 5 weeks post op and down 15 additional lbs now (average 3 a week). I am thrilled but then I let doubt creep in. I am now 24 lbs down since the optifast start on may 12th and my surgery on june 12th.

I guess the moral for us all is to focus on ourselves and what we can do. I am 205 and trying to compare myself to someone who might have started at a much higher weight than me or have a better metabolism is nuts. Ill take my three lb average and pray it stays. :)

Exactly! Take what we can get...slow and steady wins the race. As great as this app is in most cases, it can be a blow to the ego at times when we're not doing as well as the next person. I try to tell myself, many of the people that are posting many times are the extremes. Those who are doing great want to share it and those who are stuck need advice. Meanwhile, there is a huge number of Marchers (and every other month) that don't post anything and they are probably a lot like me! Slow or average to lose but nevertheless a success in many other ways and on a journey to a new life ahead. We all need to stay focused, look at the big picture and overall loss which is DOWN no matter how you look at it! (It would be great if I could remember this very thing when I get discouraged as well!)

I am also on the slow but steady path so you're not alone. I get discouraged & obsess over the scale, but just keep eating right, exercising & weight lifting. We'll get there!! Luckily, although I do get hungry, the thought of most "junk" food makes me gag.

I haven't wanted any junk either. I've never been a fast food person can't remember the last time I ate fast food. I used to like sweets but now not so much. I am not bringing, trying, or testing any sugary stuff until goal. That is my slippery slope. So why start, right?

Plus I dumped on 3 ounces of watermelon so im a confirmed dumper. Scared me straight. If fresh fruit did that id hate to think what ice cream would.

I tolerate fresh fruit just fine so I am scared s***less to EVER try sweets again!!

When I dumped on watermelon I didn't have any Protein for about four hours before I think that's why. I've had it since and haven't had a problem. :)

So today I had my 3 month follow up (technically 4 months) :) The surgeon says everything is going great. My loss is looking good at 62lbs since preop diet. Surgery was march 14th. I have also just started experiencing Hair loss :( good thing I have a lot of it or I would probably be bald now! Also experiencing constant nausea when eating or drinking Anything. As well as loose stools many many times a day. They are checking me out for a bacterial infection which will hopefully turn out to be nothing. Just hoping they can figure out my nausea issues as well. Good luck to everyone else! :)

Hi marchies hope everyone is doing well!! Question?? How many calories should we be eating at this point. Oh and loss 58 pounds so far!! Yay.

My doctor recommends for his patients to be at 1000-1200 calories this far out. I mostly get in between 600-800. I just can't seem to eat that much. I do get my Protein in 80-90 grams a day and less than 15 carbs a day. Hope that helps. Every doctor is different though so I would check with yours or your nutritionist.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
