DOES ANYONE HAVE ISSUES WITH THEIR TEETH AFTER LOSING SO MUCH WEIGHT?

Recommended Posts

I have recently discovered an issue I started having with my teeth. I am currently still pre-op, but I've had to lose, at the request of my surgeon, 25lbs before surgery. I've noticed that as I've been losing this pre-op weight it seems like my teeth are getting too big for my mouth, I know that sounds kind of weird but the reason I say that is because I have a couple of canker sores in my mouth that won't go away because my teeth keep cutting into my cheeks and this only started as I began losing so much weight.

So I was wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same type of thing after they started losing weight after surgery? And what did you do about it? I don't have dental insurance and don't have a ton of money to spend on all kinds of dental work (that stuff is so expensive) so I'm trying to figure out of it is just a "phase" I'm going through or will I continue to have trouble after surgery when I start losing more weight?

Thanks.

Is it not possible that the skin on the inside is getting loser just like the skin on the outside can. So you are biting in to it because it is getting in the way of your teeth more easely. Not that the teeth them selves are bigger or taking up more space.

I'm a dental hygienist. There is no way it's your teeth. Your teeth are how they are. They won't get bigger or smaller. They can shift with age but that's about it. It's most likely just your cheeks and your skin adjusting. You can do warm salt Water rinses. Also your aphthous ulcers (canker sores) can also be due o your change in diet. If they get too uncomfortable you can call your dentist and they should have some stuff they can put on them that burns like heck but it will heal them faster! I hope this helps!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
