Alright guys, we started talking about juicing in a few different forums the past couple days and I said I'd go ahead and make a thread just for juicing for anyone who is interested or had questions, wants recipes, curious about the benefits etc, I'm here to answer them! And anyone else of course who wants to put in their two cents :D

I'll start off with how I got started.

I have always been a foodie, and I've been a chef for about 4 years, and I've always been interested in nutrients but I never delved into it. After my surgery 11/5/12, I struggled with the idea of a balanced diet with so many limitations we have now. I wanted to do some research! I wasn't working at the time and school hadn't started yet, so my days turned into information finding adventures!! I watched documentary after documentary, read medical journal after medical journal, trying to figure out what the experts had to say as far as nutrients and a healthy diet. There was a lot, but I stumbled onto juicing and and an organic whole foods plant based diet. With these two things I found the most positive things and so I went with it! I started slow and cheap with the juicing, but 3 days into adding juice to my diet, I was hooked! I found more and more recipes, tips, and Vitamin information, and now, simply because of how amazing I feel, if it doesn't help me get to my nutritional goal for the day, I don't put it in my mouth! Minus a treat every now and then of course :)

Anyway, that's my story!

Have you seen hungry for change?

Also - I just bought the nutri-bullet from bed bath & beyond and it's great because it has all the benefits from juicing but instead of losing all the Fiber and nutrients that come out of the "pulp" that you just throw away with juicing, it actually pulverizes the whole fruit/veggie into a liquid so you get all of it in. Granted you can't get as much "liquid plant" from this method but you get the plant in its entirety instead of just the juice which I find more beneficial. Plus I just do it twice a day so I get about the same amount of juice in a day. Trying to see if I can add unflavored Protein powder and make a veggie/fruit Protein shake too. That'd be fabulous

Thanks for starting this thread. I had a juicer 20 years ago and sold it in a garage sale! The benefits you mention sound reasonable. I go for my preop visit tomorrow and will be asking about this!

I've really been meaning to watch fat sick and nearly dead. It sucks that i know whey Protein really isn't good for you but damn it I need the Protein and I can't get 80grams a day from solely food. Sucks. Starting by replacing 1 meal a day with this delicious juice stuff.

FUN FACT 1 serving of hemp seeds (3tbs) is 10 grams of protein. I put it in each juice :3

My favorite recipe so far is 3 cups kale, 3 1/2 cups broccoli stalks, 7 carrots, 2 cucumbers, 1 mango, 1 lime, 1 lemon, 1 grapefruit, 1 cup strawberries, 1 knot of ginger, 7 celery stalks, and a bundle of cilantro. It makes 3 quarts of juice and the nutrition looks like this

We aren't made to digest it naturally, just like cows milk ( why there's such a large population o lactose intolerant people) we're the only species on the planet that drinks another animals milk, that's also why soy/rice/almond milks are so much better for us and easier on our digestive system :)

Vitamin a: 429%

Vitamin c: 1739%

Calcium: 156%

Potassium: 3523mg

Iron: 240%

(Of daily amounts, as entered into myfitnesspal)

And I get all my fruit and veg at the supermarket, what I do now is go around, the best and most natural foods are always located around the circumference of the store, the more aisles you buy from, the more processed food will be in your diet. I got my juicer at Walmart! It's a GE, and it's small, only 50$ and super easy to use and clean :)

And on top of that whey Protein or any isolate for that matter is INSANELY processed which is never good for us.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
