Thanks Terry. I am still trying to operate this sight, this is kind of new to me. Do you think I could suck on a BBQ rib instead of a popsicle?

PS WASHBURN.... I agree with the straw technique... it defo makes the liquids a bit more "treaty" and luxurious! I even put an umbrella in mine today!

I am coming to the end of my first day on pre op diet...:) Can hardly believe I did it...and quite easily... It's the first time in AGES i made it a full day on track! Mind you it's only 7.30pm but I'm absolutley fine today..

SAYING THAT...I won't be getting smug JUST YET... I am only waiting to well.....:frusty:...if you know what I mean!! LOL

Now Tomorrow will be a challenge, the whole family is having easter dinner & drinks here together (oh...GOD NO!) :)

but Rather than stressin about it... I have a plan so as not to be alienated from the dinner table...:pout:

I am going to have turkey & veg with them...Now... how about that!

It's high Protein after all & I don't think I'll do any liver damage....unless the turkey's been drinking!!

:pound:

BUT.....I WON"T BE DRINKING :)... bummer

I feel very lucky to be in the position of being able to get my band...

Therefore I know I can do this.. It is the way to what I truly want & look forward to ...

I'm nobodys ...... didn't get here by pretending to be either..

... But as of now.. I am My ANGEL & I will look out for me... I will make this happen

To be a better sister, daughter, wife & friend...what's a little wine worth to achieve all this!!!

TODAY I ROCK

Terri and Sara,

Thanks ladies for your help w/ my shoulder pain/problem. I have been doing the pain meds and heating pad today. My neices and nephew came over today to see Aunt Pam Pam's "owwies" on my tummy and get their Easter baskets. I chased the little guy all over the house, had fun, but went to the kitchen and swigged the pain med out of the bottle. My heart goes out to those bandsters w/ little ones, hell, even big ones take a lot out of you. Anyway, I am glad to hear I am not alone in this shoulder pain...it is pretty intense. I don't even think about my tummy anymore, which is good!

My inlaws and partner go home tomorrow:cry . I will be a bandster on my own. My partner lives in Long Beach and has been on leave this whole week for my surgery/recovery stage. I am pretty sad about this. Does anyone else live alone? She and I are together every weekend (it has been this way for over 2 years). During the week, I teach all day and then 2 nights at the local junior college as well. Then 1 night a week I have my study group as I am trying to finish my doctorate degree (finally). So during the week I am busy. But the next week, I am off both jobs (thank God for Spring Break) and will really be alone. I guess I am just feeling a bit "sad". I do always have you guys!!!

As for what we are eating 5 days post op:

AM: 1 4oz yougart, skim milk, 20 grams Protein Powder (this is usually consummed in 3 sittings LOVE THE MAGIC BULLET)

Midday: SF pudding, skim milk, 20 grams Protein (same as above)

PM: 1/4 can of Soup, mixed w/ Water, 20gram protein powder(consummed in 2-3 sittings)

I usually feel full after 3-4 sips. I put it away in the fridge. I am really trying to listen to my body...when the pangs of hunger go away...so does the food. Makes sense to me.

Anyway, thanks again...i swear...YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!

:)

Hey I have a question,

I got up this morning with a major hormone headache and I took some aspirin to get rid of it ,not thinking OMG my surgery is scheduled for wednesday. Now I am freaking out. Should I call my doctors office on a saturday night ? I don't think that I would feel better until I spoke to someone. My husband says the worst they can do is reschedule this, I could just cry...... Thanks for listening again

:faint:OK guys I am just begining. I get banded on April 16. Nine more days. I am only on my 6th day of the pre op diet. Last night the family went out to get pizza. I stayed home, but when they got back, the house smelled like a pizza parlor. This morning we had an easter egg hunt at the church with free hot dogs for everyone. By the time I got home, I could have eaten anything in sight.

I know I must sound like a wuse, but is it this hard after the band? I don't want to put my family in danger, because of my hunger.

Phil

Hey Phil, hang in there!!! I feel your pain, I've been eating 1 can of tuna a night and everyone else here has been eating JUNK and then laugh at my tuna saying how GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD it looks, smells... etc, while they shovel <<<<<< edited for food Porn Filter >>>>>>>> into their bottemless pie holes.

Hi everyone!

I found a magic-bullet-knock-off at Khol's department store for $25. But it puts so many air bubbles in the drink, that I have to let it sit for like 30 minutes before drinking (with a straw! *wink*). Maybe I am doing it wrong?

I also bought a scale for the bathroom. This is the first time in my adult life that I have owned a scale. I used to just find out how much I weighed (and gained) when I went to the doctor, which I avoided at all costs. But I am now obssessed with getting on the scale- loving watching it go down!!!!!

I have just completed day 3 of my preOp diet. I am doing pretty well maintaining the hunger. I have been drinking a lot of Water. My nutritionist didn't want me to go on liquids for preOp. So I am doing a high Protein, low carb type of diet.

I have:

Breakfast: two eggs

Lunch: 1/2 cup soy milk, 1/2 water 2 TBS protein powder and a couple of ice cubes (the shake takes me a long time to drink 1 - 3 hours)

coffee with nonfat milk or chai with soymilk

Snack: apple

Dinner: steak, broc, mushrooms

Hot tea, and lots (80oz) of water every day.

So far so good, I am trying not to panic when I feel a hunger pain, but just relax and make sure I have things that are satisfying and easy to get.

I know I can do this for a while, it was the excessive binging on carbs that got me here.

Wishing those banded a speedy recovery and those in the lineup lots of luck with your surgeries!

Hey guys! Just checking in for today... Good luck for those of you getting banded in the next week!!

This morning I had half a glass of OJ and a banana for breakfast.. I got headaches again and threw it up (quite a bit for such a small Breakfast I thought). Not sure if it's the lack of caffein or what's going on.

Made some expresso and drank it quickly, felt a little better.

Tonight I cheated myself a little. I had a mexican pizza from taco bell. I've been staying away from greasy food, esp. fast food pre-op.. but fiance brought it home (bad bad bad fiance!) and I haven't been feeling well so I did not want to make anything. I have drank 2 liters of Water right afterward to flush it out.

I'm still losing weight from this no-sugar, no-salt, no grease pre-op diet. It's getting me ready for the treck ahead :)

I can't wait! (I know, I mention this every other day.. but the good news is, I'll be banded in almost a week so then I'll shut up!)

OMG- This thread....it's hard to keep up! I don't know where to begin or end.

I was banded 4-2-07/Monday. I have been doing very well.

I took care of my one year old, Mazie, on Thursday :) and...Friday she went to Granny's for the day!!! I suffer from insomnia, so I rarely get enough sleep. Friday I did take an hour nap:notagree(finally).

I am no longer using my Medication for pain (it may be nice at night though -- I'm a tummy sleeper).

I am not hungery as a bear any longer!!!:hungry: Prior to banding I could have had 3 Protein shakes/(half a side of beef) at a sitting... now it takes a while to get 1 shake down. (probly the swelling at this point). My feeling of fullness is....different though, before when I got full (after tons of food) I had a heavy, fullness, low in my "stomach area". Now it is a higher up, tighter, pressure , kind of feeling. I feel full, and fine, but just "different full".

I have eaten today...water,water, tea, SF pudding, tomato/basil Soup, 2 cans Protein Shake, small, fat free yogurt smoothie, and strained french onion soup.NOT BY THE GALLON.

I have heard post op-- NO straws :cry -- they increase your gas/air swallowed -- you won't want any extra gas/air.

I was worried about shoulder pain (I already had some) but did not get any after surgery!!! I did get terrible pains in the back of my neck! 2-3 days then gone!!:)

I am excited to hear from everyone as they return post op!! I hope that everyone recovers well, and has great health! Keep on posting, keep on asking questions, and keep on sharing with everyone. Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences with me, and for allowing me this outlet, to share mine with you.:clap2:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
