Almost 2 years post op & pain?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

Friday night I went out for dinner with the family. Everything was ok with dinner, got back to MIL's place, and I got a stitch in my side. Quite a nasty one too. This lasted for the rest of the night. I woke up with a sore stomach the following morning, and though "Oh, ok, I over did it at dinner..." and had really runny (almost liquid) bowl of oats for Breakfast (the thinking behind that was to give my stomach a break). By lunch my stomach was really bugging me, so I went onto liquids. I have had a fairly constant, but not overly painful burning sensation to the left, just below my ribs. And now I have had pain, and belching every single time I have tried to eat. Add to that an odd gurgling sound that is pretty much my soundtrack.

I do have an appointment with my surgeon for the 23rd, and I also have an appointment with my GP for tomorrow. So I will be seeking medical advice, and care very shortly. I am not dehydrated, and am not weak or suffering, apart from not being able to eat without pain (to be honest, I have only tried to heat a handful of times over the last 24 hours, and it has me worried that I haven't eaten anything solid since Friday night, and here it is Wednesday midday, and I am still in trouble)

So to my question. If I am feeling ok, apart from the (not overly painful, more annoying than anything) pain, and the annoyance of not being able to eat, should I be running to the ER? DH is beside himself, and wants to take me in. I keep insisting I am ok.... Would you go? Keep in mind I do have appointments with my GP in the morning, and my 2 year follow up on the 23 rd. I don't think I am being blaze about it, if there is a problem, the GP will tell me to get my ass to the surgeon (in fact, she would ring him herself, and get me in to see him that day, she is a gem)

Thanks guys.

In my opinion.. since you are already going in the a.m. I would wait unless you take a change for the worse. If you didn't have an appointment tomorrow a.m. I would say YES go.

Just my 2 cents

Just make sure to stay hydrated. I know that dehydration is NO fun at all. Make sure you are getting plenty of liquids and calories to keep your strength up. The doc can better steer you tomorrow. I know I was on liquids for 14 days with no problems, so I am sure you will be fine as long as you are getting plenty of liquids. ~Mandy

Thanks guys.

The funny thing is I am not all that worried. What will be will be, if you know what I mean. My main concern is... Get this - That should I need to go into hospital, that I will not be here to oversee the renovations we have going on right now.

Good luck tomorrow, I hope they are able to make the pain go away quickly. ~Mandy

I would think that you know if you feel basically sound and you're right, what will be will be. Rushing into casualty now wont change anything. If you're going to the doc tomorrow, I'd be more inclined to try to rush a trip to your surgeon than actually go to the hospital.

I do occasionally get days where my stomach can really hurt with the type of pain you're describing, not as intensely as what you're saying, and not for as long but everynow and then I wake up with a feeling in my stomach, kind of like the pain you get when you're going to vomit but with no associated nausea. It can only be my band and its happened probably 3 or 4 times in the last year. But it goes away within a day or two and I'm none the worse afterwards.

Here's hoping like heck that its something temporary for you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
