Is There Still Hope If You Dont Have Any Sort Of Insurance?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm new to the site. I'm 21years old and I'm from California. I've struggled with my weight all my life. I've been researching about gastric bypass for the last few years. I need to get healthy or my life is just going to keep going down hill. I'm still young & I know that there's still a chance for me to turn my life around. I really want to get the surgery but I'm scared that I won't be able to. I don't have any insurance & my family is dirt poor. Do I have any options that could help me? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am self-pay. I used savings to finance my surgery. Options that I know of include (1) obtaining financing through your surgeon; (2) if you are a Veteran you might qualify at a veteran's hospital; (3) you could explore surgery options in Mexico. I wish I had more ideas but this is all I can think of. Maybe someone else on the forum will have an idea.

I recommend at least calling some surgeons' offices for ideas. Maybe they will know of something.

I wish you success.

One other idea: at least at my surgeon's office, the gastric bypass is much more expensive than other procedures, the vertical sleeve gastrectomy and the lapband. If you have to self-fund, these options are more obtainable.

Do they have Medicaid where you live at? If so you can apply & they cover gastric bypass.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
