De-banding/Re-banding

Recommended Posts

Gday guys,

This is my first post, so plz be nice

I had my lapband installed when I was 15 in 10/2000, and unfortunatley it was removed in 10/2004 due to slippage.

It took me 5 days and 3 visits to convince the emergency dept that there was something wrong, and on the 5th day and 3rd visit I feinted and they finally admitted me.

I had no idea it was coming, and I know that I was PB'ing alot less than most people (like once a month if that).

I was completed blocked, couldnt even sip Water.

Anyway, I've since regained all the weight I lost +20kg, and my quality of life is suffering greatly.

I want to know what experiences people have had with being rebanded after having it removed (for whatever reason)

Also, what cost is involved (my father paid for it all those years ago and I can't remember)

Are doctors hesitant to reinstert the band?

Also, I understand the design of the band has been changed recently, that it is made of softer material now instead of hard plastic one that I had.

Sorry about my rambling post but I'm desperate for answers and I will appreciate any info I can get and be forever greatful.

Thank you in advance,

Ashley

Hi Ash, Are you in Australia? We have a local Australian support board here at Lapbandtalk. It is at the bottom of the forum boards. As for being nice, people here are all struggling with the same issues and you will only get kind advice and support here.

Would you consider going to see your GP about getting rebanded? You could get you name put on the public list to help you to cover the cost of it.

I was just banded last friday with the new AP band, which is softer and may prevent slippage. Time will tell.

Good on you Ashley.

Dr C, I have been banded for a little over 2 years and am having pain in my stomach and terrible burning like gas between my breast and back. I had a barium swallow done and my doc said it seems like my band is ok but in some of the slides it looks like my stomach folds in on itself.... Have you ever heard of this? He said I would need to have an endoscopy to make sure all is good but I am so worried that something is wrong... I have had very small weightloss since having my band.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am sure you can get rebanded I know many people have, as far as the costs you need to check with a local dr as prices vary alot. Good luck to you

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
