So I went to my doctor today to get him to do my 2 week prior check up and sign my form, all of a sudden my blood pressure is high. I have never had high blood pressure. I was just checked 4 months ago. It's 140/90. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm moving houses, and working full time and nervous about this surgery?? So he refuses to sign my form for me and is referring me to a specialist. Apparently he thinks I am not fit for surgery. Okay, somebody please make me feel better.:faint:

Becca, that is terrible, i have high blood pressure and my surgery went fine, no complication's at all. How high was your pressure this time.

Sorry Becca! Maybe you could go in for a recheck? BP can be read differently by different people. It seems to me that they should get several values before freaking out and canceling your surgery.

The ironic thing is that weight loss will help lower blood pressure, so I'd think they'd want you to do it.

I have high blood pressure, but it is controlled with drugs. If you do have high blood pressure yours can probably be controlled also. So this may be just a temporary set back. Still a bummer though when you are all ready to go with a surgery date.

Is it 140/90 now or was that before hand. Because 140/90 is not that high. here's some info from webmd about the stages

Normal: Less than 120/80

Prehypertension: 120-139/80-89

Stage 1 hypertension: 140-159/90-99

Stage 2 hypertension: 160 and above/100 and above

Awwww.... what?! Man, every freakin' time I went to the Dr. my blood pressure was high... cause I was FREAKED every time I went!

Call Dr. Cobourn and ask what he thinks... maybe he can call your Dr. Go to the Dr. again tomorrow and check it again!

The thing is it's not even that high, 140/90. Thats considered borderline high, not even high! I'm going to call Dr.Cobourn tomorrow and see what he says. I really am healthy other than that.

I don't think you NEED your Dr's approval anyways. It's just a health 'check'... did he check everything else he was supposed to? I can't remember, do you get the form or whatever back, or does your Dr. send it in himself? I'm sure Dr. C can do some sweet talking.

Gosh Becca I feel rotten for you:cry I can't imagine how disipointed you must feel, was this your regular GP,does he understand the surgery? My blood pressure is one of the reasons I want this done and believe me it's higher then yours without drugs,your right that's just border line.I really hope Dr. Cobourn comes through for you.I'll be sending good thoughts your way for you tomorrow.Good luck

Phone your surgeon's office and tell them what happened. They operate on patients with high blood pressure all the time, they know how to handle this. Unless it is in a dangerous zone the odds are they will take precautions and be able to operate whether your GP signs off or not.

That is ridiculous Becca.....I agree, that is NOT high and ONE reading is not sufficient to diagnose you with Hypertension. Plus, most people have higher than normal readings anyways when at the Doctors office (White Coat Syndrome). I agree, I don't think you need your GPs approval.

For sure discuss this with Dr. C's office and I bet all will be okay.

Becca, don't worry too much. I came up with a bladder or kidney infection during my pre-op. She prescribed me antibiotics. Dr. C. did'nt even batt an eye, I told him and he said, oh, thats okay.

So I just suggest you e-mail or call Dr. C., especially cause it isnt even that high.

Becca I can understand how upset you must be right now. I am upset for you believe me. For sure talk to Dr. Cobourn. The thing to remember that maybe your Dr forgot is that Dr. C is used to working and operating on people who already have these exsisting problems and conditions and it trained to understand the needs that they experience durring surgery. for example I was worried about going under cause I heard that BMI greatly influence tolerance and all those things. But then I had to sit back and think "wait a minute here is a Dr. who KNOWS this UNDERSTANDS this and is all ready forseeing all of these things. Don't worry Becca I am sure Dr. Cobourn will be able to help. Just hang in there.

Becca, That just plain sucks.

I am sure that Dr. C will get it sorted out for you. I currenlty have high BP & am taking medication for it. When I talked to Dr. C about this during the consult he said it was pretty common. Your BP is not that bad either, so I would not be suprised if it was just a one time thing.

Did he take it with you standing, or laying down? (You not the Dr. :biggrin1: )

That's ridiculous! Becca, I'm sending you my Dr.'s name. She'll sign that for you. Sheesh...someone is on a "power trip". By chance is this man of short stature?

My blood pressure goes through the roof every time I'm at the Dr.'s, it's a stress response. Next time you're at Shopper's, check it yourself. You have a lot going on right now what a fool for not taking that into consideration. He could have also given you some blood pressure meds and maybe a few days worth of anti-anxiety meds just to get through this.

I agree with the other posts...call Dr. C and let him know what's going on.

Thanks guys, Mookie, your Doc happens to be my aunt so I don't want to go to her hee hee. She's a wonderful doctor though but I'm not telling my extended family about mu surgery. Your right that he's on a power trip, big time. BTW, did any of you have to pay for this to be done? He's charging me for it, I don't know how much yet. I think I need to find a new doc ASAP.
