Hellooooooo.....

Your pre-op stuff sounds like mine. It's not so much how much you weigh but that you are taking the steps to change it to be a healthier person. My mom was very obese and unhealthy. She passed away at 61 because she choose to remain unhealthy. I didn't want to be the person she had become. I was originally going for the sleeve but due to my hernia, I have to have bypass. I hope I can be disciplined enough to follow all the rules. From what I hear, you have to be because of the consequences!

I have a question! How did you get a surgery date for sep if you hadn't finished all your pre recs? I wanted to get my rny done by my bday sep 24 I see the phy on Tuesday then all I have left is to see the nutritionist. When do I make my finale appt with the doc? I need answers please :-)

The way it works with my surgeon is that all pre-op work HAS to be completed prior to even getting a date.

Well my doc gave me a booklet on our first visit. It had alot of info about obesity and the different options. It also had a checklist with two columns one was what your insurance required the other what he required. I think their office knows the insurance companies very well so they gave me my date once I had completed those requirements which for Aetna were 3 months of classes and a psych eval. I did the supervised multidisciplinary program in their office and got the psych eval done and in their office before my final weigh in date of July 24.

I have a blog where I explain in detail a few issues I had with the office staff. I think they gave me my date due to some of those issues and while the date itself was 2 months from the final weigh in on July 24 th I think that was for two reasons one I needed to lose some wt as I had gained during the 3 month program and my bmi is very high at 69-70. Two they wanted to be sure they had time to get my approval.

Oh I wanted to mention I am a RN. I worked l & d for 19 years then this year for many reasons I switched to a desk job in PST which is pre surgical testing. I call and interview people before they have surgery and tell them what meds to take ie not take, not eating, and directions. Also I check that the chart has all the required testing and that the testing is within normal limits or cleared by the appropriate doctor.

So my list includes the pre surgery items and the pre op items.

Something's need to be done within 30 days of surgery to be valid like the lab work and the medical clearence. Others within 6 months like the EKG chest x ray and cardiac clearence

each office has different requirements but I think once the surgical coordinator gives you a date they make a final doc appt for within 2-4 weeks of that date.

I think it is confusing because there are things pre op for approval then the actual pst pre surgical testing that must be done before surgery itself. things that need to be within 30 days of the actual surgery date like blood work and medical clearances. other pst can be within 6 months

Hi everyone! I'm having my surgery September 10. I started my journey in August 2011. I completed all of my requirements in April 2012 and my insurance denied me in June 2012 because the hospital my doctor used was not recognized as a Center of Excellence by Cigna even though it was by other insurances. So, I started over with a new doctor in June 2012 and got my approval last week on the first submission. I actually am really happy I had to switch doctors as I LOVE my new doctor and the hospital I'll be at in San Diego is much better than my local one. Four more weeks! September's going to be a new beginning for many of us!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
