Cooking For Your Family Before And After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm curious about how you handling cooking for your family before and after your surgery. I do pretty much all the cooking in my family and would like to know how you handle this in your home. Do you ask someone else in your family to cook for you? Do you just use pure will power to not taste test as you cook? Do you still sit with your family at dinner time and drink your shakes?

I have a 3 & 4 year old with picky palates so it's fruits, yogurts, spaghetti, nuggets, etc. For my husband, I made up some favorites then froze in portions. I also plan to make things such as a pot of spaghetti and meatballs that he can eat from for a few days. If he wants something else, he can either cook his own dinner or get take out. I think he is planning to eat bigger lunches at work and have a lighter dinner. My 8 month old will be on a similar diet as me LOL. Takes him about 20 minutes to eat 3 oz of blended food so he'll be my company at mealtime :)

I live with my two dogs to there is no problem here - LOL But, when my BF comes over i usually cook for him, I have no problem cooking the foods he likes and me having my food. Now that i am on a modified regular food diet I cannot each much at all so I do have tiny tastes of what he is eating if its not too fattening, in general I am just not hungry so I can cook and not eat with no problem. Of course I taste but tasting and eating are two different things :)

Hello... I cook 7 days a week 3 meals a day. I make real food. We don't eat out since we have a lot of bills occasionally a slice here & there, but not really.

dinner I make rice with Beans & any kind of meat, spagetti, lasagna, you name it I make it.

Breakfast scramble eggs,sausage,bacon,toast,cafe.. you name it I make it except pancake.

lunch macoroni & cheese corn & pork chops or home made french fries, burgers, and many other food.< /em>

I don't taste the food so I have no idea how it taste, but I'm a housewife, and been cooking for over 16 years so I can imagine how it taste especially when everyone eats the food & empty the plate.

It doesn't bother me cooking daily. I'm used to it. yes sometimes I wanna grab something, but it is worth vomiting over? Hell no!! I'll have my Jello. I don't sit on the dinner table.

My husband has taken on the cooking duties for now. I don't eat with them I use that time to go ride my stationary bike inu bedroom. It's working at the moment. Eventually want to be back at the table with my family.

In the beginning I had no appetite at all so it wasn't an issue. Now (it'll be 3 months this week) the kids est what I eat. I used to cook for them and then something for myself but my girls thought the the things I was making for myself seemed way more interesting and exciting so one day my youngest said "mommy you don't have to cook two meals well just eat what you eat!"...my teenager is on board as well. So my healthy eating has caught on! When there are carbs involved I just don't eat em..

Like when we have turkey burger I omit the bun and cheese on mine...baked chicken...I just pull the skin off of mine. Liver & onions...no gravy or rice for me. This surgery has benefited the whole family. The other day at the grocer my daughter picked out sugar free ice cream on her own knowing that I don't even eat ice cream. In other words she picked her favorite flavor of ice cream in a sugar free brand for herself. She also found me some sugar free relish fat free Peanut Butter and when we went out to eat the other night she asked the waitress did they have a low fat/low cal menu...warmed my heart. They are always looking for new recipes and things that I (we) can eat. I'm glad we are doing this as a family.

That's awesome! I hope to have my family change their eating habits too! I have two 7 yr olds that have always ate what I cooked. They like things that other kids don't usually like. their favorite is salmon and veggies so I hope I can get them on board too. My fiancé , well that's not gonna be as easy lol.

I wish my family was like that. What spanish person you know will not want rice & eat veggies with me? No one... I'm the only one that would cook the good stuff & eat healthy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
