I had my surgery almost 17 weeks ago and now I'm having hair loss starting last week! I'm extremely concerned and I always take my Vitamins and get in almost all of my protein! I started taking 1,000 mcg of Biotin yesterday just wondering if anyone has gone through this already or has any advice!!! I'm freaking out over here about ending up bald...and bald and skinny is not the look I'm going for! Also anyone who has already had surgery and Hair loss how long before I'll know if the Biotin is going to work? Thanks so much!!!

-freakin out over here!!!

Bald & skinny is not in style.

I would say talk to the doctor cuz if your taking all the Vitamin then everything should be fine.

My hair was thinning out after I had my son 2 years ago but my hair stylish told me to use a product called kuul reconstructor system $25 and add 1/4 cup olive oil & no lie in about 2 months my hair was back to normal.

It seems everyone I've watched go through gbp has a period where the body seems to adjust. They thin, then grow back. And they are religious about Vitamins. Maybe it's more the body adapting that makes it fall out. But I do agree...bald and skinny isnt in!

When I went to my siminar I was told that Hair loss was normal because of the hormone changes we go through - do u have long hair? U may want to cut it, layer it till your body becomes accustom to the changes-- I've decided if that happens to me and I'm losing weight I'm getting a make over, a HOTT new style to go with my new body!! Pamper yourself!!

I was told to take 1000mcg of Biotin 3 times a day and Folic Acid. My hair is already very thin, so any thing that gets posted I would love to hear about.

I heard if your concerned about hair loss then you need to start Biotin before it starts

I wasn't worried before because I figured it wouldn't be so much that would come out but it's handfuls at a time so it's very scary!

I do have long hair and it's layered so it looks like it will be cut up to my shoulders this weekend!

I am also concerned about Hair loss. I have already been losing hair due to my thyroid. I asked my surgeon about hair loss before my surgery and he told me it was normal to start losing hair about 3 mos post op. Unfortunately it can last until 9 mos post op. he did say start taking Biotin and selenium.

My nutritionist said that its actually a Protein deficiency and to dbl scoop your Protein. Also there is an awesome lady on here I think here name is RaleighNC that's around 10 months post op that said the same thing. She said once she doubled up her protein the hair loss quickly subsided. Possibly ask your Dr to check your protein levels. My Doc does it routinely because protein is so very important to our success as bypass patients. But I always says prayer won't hurt either! :)....and a good scalp massage everyday...

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I think we're all dreading the day when this might happen to us. It's really frustrating that no one can seem to agree what the cause is. I tend to agree with the hormonal theory because the amount of body fat a woman has really affects her hormones. Lose a lot of body fat quickly, your hormones go out of wack. As off the wall as it sounds, maybe a visit to the gyn for some bloodwork wouldn't hurt? I'm super curious to see if men have this problem too. I know we have very few guys on here, but if any of them could let us know if they've experienced this it would be interesting.

Of course, they can just go shave their heads, lol not fair.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
