Tell me about your energy level

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Sorry if I post too much. I basically think about my surgery 24/7. I'm scheduled 10/14.

Anyway. Right now I get up at 545, punch into work at 7, punch out at 3...by the time 6 or 7 rolls around I'm totally drained.

I know people complain of low energy at first. So when do u get the energy like you've never had before? Did it just hit you one day as you were power cleaning your house or does it steadily increase?

All input is appreciated

After initially getting over the surgery I moved more and more safely as I could. I determined before the surgery that exercise was a permanent fixture for the rest of my life, like bathing or brushing teeth.

I went from walking to walking with weights to running with weights to running up a hill with weight repeatedly. I also did push ups, squats, and worked out with a kettlebell.

My energy steadily increased. After a year I went to work with my nephew in his dock building business here in Florida, I shovel dirt and wheelbarrow for hours in the hot Florida heat. This from a guy who puffed like an old steam engine after climbing the stairs to the bedroom. I am 64 years old as well.

Determined, deliberate, consistent, well thought out exercise coupled with this operation and a proper diet is a combination that will most likely yield a doubling or tripling of your energy.

Yeah, my energy level steadily increased. I went from getting up by 6:30 and napping by around 10 till about 2 then being up for a couple of hours and then finding myself slipping off to sleep around 6 or so. Since about month 3 post op I stopped napping all together, and as a matter of fact, I even sleep less at night, heading to bed around 11-12 and waking up at 6:30. I feel like I am in my 20's again! :)

I work at a desk job and I went back to work 4 days after surgery and I did fine all day at work. However, for about the first two weeks after surgery, I was getting fairly tired by 8:00 PM, such that I would have to take a nap sometimes. I usually don't go to bed until about 1:00 AM, but during the first two weeks, I was sometimes going to bed by 10:00 or 11:00 PM. After the first two weeks I got past the evening tiredness and didn't have any problems. I was exercising all along, and I was also at my full Protein target 3 days after surgery. If not for those two things it would probably have taken me longer to get back to normal.

I'm 15 days post op and absolutely exhausted. I go to work and then come home and need to sleep by 5:30 or 6. I'm just dog tired. I know it's the surgery as i used to have way more energy and I can't wait to be a full month out and for it to get better.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
