Sugar Free Iced Coffee?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone I am 6 weeks post op today and down 47lbs from my Highest Weight, I have been having iced coffee from my Keurig the 'Green Mountian' French vanilla with sugar free Sweet Creamer about twice a week... is coffee really that bad? I dont feel sick or any pain sipping on it. I actally look forward to it as a little treat. Any Veteran Sleevers know any long term issues with some iced coffee here and there?

The thing about coffee and caffeine in general is that they say caffeine can stimulate hunger, and also act as a diuretic. Both bad things when you are working your sleeve and losing weight. Some are effected by it in this way, others are not. Also, with coffee, it's easy to overload it with empty calories (cream, sugar etc.). Personally, I'm a tea drinker always have been always will be. I've been drinking cold black tea, like nobodies business since 2 days after surgery, and no ill effects. I also dose myself with the occasional coffee as well, if you drink it, don't have any ill effects, and your Dr is okay with it, drink it up!!

I don't know about caffeine stimulating hunger, but the thing about it being a diuretic is a myth. Or at least, coffee/tea etc. have about the same diuretic effect on you as plain Water does.

This is just one link:

Google it and you will find confirming information from the mayo Clinic, New York Times, etc.

I can have a couple cups of black coffee each day with the blessing of the RD in my surgeon's office. I haven't actually started doing it yet because my morning "coffee" is a coffee Protein Drink right now (I do add some instant espresso to it and the Protein coffee I use does have real caffeine, so in terms of caffeine it's about the same as having a couple of cups of coffee). On a few occasions I have had a cup of black coffee and it has not bothered me a bit. Coffee helps keep you regular, too :D

Thank you :) I have a DR appt this Friday so I will ask him. I try and stick with sugar free and I only drink Iced coffee if I have enough calories left for the day :) I will give diet iced tea a try as well.

I drink coffee and absolutely love it. Love it so much that although it made me illl the first few rimes I kept trying it after short breaks :P. and Lo and behold, I now have no trouble with it.

If you like iced coffee you might try the Chike Protein coffee. We have that every morning. My husband puts one shot of espresso in it (coz you can never have too much), two scoops of chiike coffee, 1 c of soy milk, and tops with ice and blends it, and itd makes enough so we both have a cup each. Wonderful flavor plus Protein. What more can you ask for?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
