Recommended Posts

Glad to here you are doing well Brandi.

I just did my pre-registration. Found out that I have to be at the hospital at 8am with surgery at 9:30. I feel like crying and I don't know if it is relief or if I am just scared.

I hear ya! I'm sitting here shaking inside waiting for a 3:00 call to tell me when to be there on Monday. Maybe a good dose of both relief and scared??? You tell me! Karen

ooooooohhhhhhhhhh you know... I'm doing ok....... (SCREAMING LIKE A WILD HAIRED BANCHEEE!) LOL

I just found out last night that dbf has been asked to be best man at an old friends wedding in July, and it is smack dab in the middle of the SMALL town where he and his exwife went to high school and lived .. (she still lives there, and she is fine.. but the REST OF THE TOWN will be eyeballing me!!!!!!!) They were well known because he was the fire chief when they divorced....... So I am under pressure (from myself) to loose as much weight as I can before it rolls around.

I have been chewing all my pills. It tastes NASTY but no sliming or PBing.

I chew up as many as I can that will make a small "bite", then fill my mouth with something that has flavor (I've been using Gatorade). If I have to take more, then repeat. Then I wash the Gatorade around in my mouth to get as much off my teeth as possible, swallow and then grab some gum to chew on to get rid of the taste.

It's a royal PITA and you may have some pills that aren't meant to be chewed, but so far, so good.

(and me say again, they taste NASTY, NASTY, NASTY, lol)

I purchased a pill crusher at Walgreen's and have been grinding my pills up, adding them to a little bit of sugar-free pudding and spooning them down that way. It has made taking the bitter pills much easier. When I tried mixing them with crystal light, they never seemed to dissolve.

Hello Everyone!!! I just wanted to check in to let you all know that everything went well. I am feeling really good and I am happy with my decision to be banded. My incisions look great and I am having very little pain. I am belching alot, but I guess that's a good thing. I appreciate all your prayers and positive words and thanks to everyone who sent me a message. I hope you all are doing well. I will be checking back very soon......

Thanks Karen!!! Everything will be just fine....You are going to do great on Monday. Good Luck!!!

I didn't get much sleep in the hospital last night...not band related. I just don't like hospital rooms and whenever I did get to sleep a nurse always came barging into the room flicking on lights and everything. Anyways, I am going to bed now, but I will post more very soon....

Yeah, I've tried crushing them myself (and made a mess - I'm sure the staff at the hotel in Mexico thinks I do cocaine) and never could get it to mix.

Now that I'm being more adventurous on what I'm eating, I'm sure the SF pudding won't be worse for me band-wise than the FF fried Beans I just ate :(

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Well I ended up sleeping all day so I didn't get to call my GP. I can see if I can maybe call the clinic though yet... anyway, pain is improving. Still have Urine in blood and still a decent amount but this time was less I think than previous time. Still is pretty unique for me though. And I was given clindymiacin with the op so I don't know why I would be getting a bladder infection but I guess it could be because of the catheter. I'm just glad it isn't band related.

The band is stil really sensitive/swollen. My little sips take a second to go down and then I burp. But they do go down. My poor band! So I need some Protein so I'm going to start sipping on my protein Water. I hope the band swelling goes down soon-- I was looking forward to full liquids. And I hope I don't stay this tight! I'm not sure how well I'd be handle food. But I sitll have swelling thats slowly going down so that tells me that Its likely pretty swollen up in there too. So now its just wait and see and do what the band tells me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
