when does this stuck feeling go away?

Recommended Posts

i'm almost 2 weeks out, barely starting on full liquids (as per my dr's schedule), and it's really hard for things like Protein drinks to go down (pure Protein, etc). anything milky is really hard to take down, whereas it's relatively easy to drink Clear Liquids. is this normal?

also, does that feeling ever go away? of eating something and not feeling it slide down your throat painfully? i read about a lot of post-op people eating solids 3, 6 months down the line - are you able to bites, or will you forever need to chew everything to a mush?

sorry for all the questions. i'm being super paranoid polly today. thanks all!

I have the same struggle, I thin things down and still find myself gagging with different textures. Its even worse now because I have thrush and feel like I have swallowed a cotton ball, what is really irritating me is I called my surgeons office this am and spoke to the nurse twice and no one ever called me back. I just had a mini breakdown over it, I can't drink thicker liquids very well as it is and now I feel like I have a cotton ball in my throat and I actually gag when I cough and they didn't do anything for me. I guess if I am still pissed off Monday at my appt they may hear about it. They may hear about it regardless. I know that if it isn't painful that treatment is rarely done or even needed, but I am uncomfortable.... I don't want to be uncomfortable.

ah! when did you get sleeved? when i freaked out about my drainage, i emailed almost everyone in my doctor's office (i'm sure i was a pain), and was prepared to go to my pcp. my husband calmed me down and i got a response the next day.

i'm so sorry you're uncomfortable!

11 days. Its tolerable but annoying. Frustrating that they kind of brushed me off for a weekend. Oh well.

That's what I get for hitting enter too quick.. I had a hard time with milky fluids at first.. It slowly backed off but I still can't really drink a glass of milk. My doctor said some people experience a lactose intolerance. See if your doc would recommend a lactose free milk for Protein Shakes

thanks chittick! i'm taking a ppi basically every 24 hours for acid. at 3.5 years out, do you still have that awkward feeling eating, or is it normal (just with restriction)?

My doctor said some people experience a lactose intolerance. See

Oh man oh man it hit me like a brick wall on Saturday. I've never been in that much intestinal pain in my life! My nutritionist had me do a yogurt smoothie a day for a few days and add lactose back in and so far so good.

I don't have the uncomfortable feeling anymore. But I still have to remind myself to eat slow.. Chew chew chew, don't drink Water with eating, and I take a Pepcid everyday sometimes two. After surgery I took a chewable Pepcid in the morning and one in the evening... And I limit my milk products. All these things add to the uncomfortable feeling and things you can do to help your digestion. When you start on mushiness and regular food walking right after eating really helped me digest my food. Don't know what but it did. Ex specially when I had that nauseating feeling.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
