Really? Really, youve got to be kidding me!

I have my surgery in 8 days and this morning I went to get my final labs. I've been wondering how I would handle people asking me questions regarding my weight loss after the fact, and haven't completely made up my mind. So imagine my suprise when the woman behind the counter asked me what I was having surgery for, and out my mouth pops "bariatric, or weight loss surgery". I didn't think twice, I just answered her.

Now comes the look of disbelief and the raised eyebrow. She stands up and looks me over head to toe. Says no way, you aren't big enough. Then she asks me how much I weigh and my height. I tell her - 5'-7" and 228. She laughs at me and says proudly, well I weigh 350 and I would never have that done. She continues to persist in questioning me, even asking me at one point to "show her my belly". I politely declined. Ten minutes later, there are 2 people in line behind me getting pissed off, the conversation has turned to her and her inability to not lose weight, what she eats daily (2 eggs and sardines for bkfst - nasty!) and she has shown me her stomach and arms and won't shut.up.ever.....

Here I've been worried about what people might think after, never once did it occur to me that I would be looked down on by anyone who deals with weight issues themselves. She must have told me I was crazy at least 5 times, and that I just wasn't fat enough to have this surgery. She insisted I needed a second opinion that my Dr. Was just trying to "take my money"..... REALLY!???! WTF?! You've got to be kidding.

Do I have that? Maybe. I am pretty cranky. I just feel sick and very weak. My surgeon is far away and doesn't call me back. I am so frustrated trying to stuff enough Protein and Water in to make it go away so I feel stronger but it isn't working yet. I am on my forth huge jug of water for the day which will give me 80oz but its half water and half gatorade with 2 dashes of fiber shaken in just for FLAVOR!

The lack of calories and carbs is making me short tempered and cranky for sure. I'm normally very peppy and I don't deal well with tired and helpless and sick. And with your young kids, it got to be tougher. (Thought you posted earlier about 3 young kids yes?)

Trust me its not just you. It's part of the journey as far as I can tell from watching others, and myself.

A. Cranky

B. Emotional

C. Short tempered

D. All of the above

;-)

Hah! I just saw this after I posted.

Oh, if that's what happens at 4 weeks, my man is gonna lurvvvvvve me! Think I better give him a pass to go to the pub every day!

I do have young kids. I have 7 kids ranging in age from 39 to 9 (seriously). 3 are grade school age.

Very inappropriate. In the medical professional, does she not understand her limits. There's a federal law that protects your "personal health information." In no way should she have asked you anything about why you were there. I would report her ass!!!!!

I agree I agree I agree!

All of this discussion about why this woman said the things she said would be one thing if it were a family member or a friend or acquaintance. But she was not! She works the desk at the lab!!!!!

"Blah' date=' blah, blah" still resonates in my brain from my one month postop self. Sigh....[/quote']

Hehehe... That was a classic :P

Yes, the one month curse gets us all...

I feel like the fat people/friends are just jealous. Sad to say but I think its true.

I think you may have a point. I feel like they are mad that you are doing something they are too scared to do themselves, even though they know they probably should

I think sometimes, people are just ignorant. I don't mean that in a name calling sort of way, but just to say they simply were not taught any better. However, that's still no excuse. Its like my dad always says, if ignorance is bliss, then they're a solid blister. I thank God every day for my parents and the things they taught me as I was growing up.
