  1. Actually because I do have respect for Rox and her family and friends I will not post on this thread again. I certainly don't have a problem arguing if someone wants to message me privately to bash me for my opinion but I will not do it publicly out of respect for them. Again, my sincere condolences to the family.
  2. I very clearly stated that I do not know the facts just as you don't know them. I clearly said IF the story as told is true........The difference is that I do not know or have an emotional bond or some kind of loyalty to the surgeon in question and I don't automatically assign the seat next to God to all Drs simply because they are mine. My opinion had nothing to do with intrigue or pot-stirring and frankly I resent your assertion otherwise. My opinion stands.
  3. This will not be the popular opinion, but its mine and I'm stating it anyway. First, I didn't know Rox. My sincere condolences go out to all of those that knew and loved her. I am truly sorry for your loss. Just like all of you I don't know the true facts of the case. Like you I wasn't there. All of us can only form opinions based on the stories we read and which ones we choose to believe. It seems that some of you were told a story by someone you trust to have the facts. If the story on this as its detailed above is true this scenario is not on the list of risks we consider and decide to take on prior to opting for surgery. To say that it is is really absurd and I think disrespecful to the victim and her family. I say victim because if she stated she was ill and returned for help and was blown off for a few days because a trip ( or anything else) was more important that is what she was made to be. She took the risk that she might have a leak. We all took that risk. She did not knowingly take the risk that the surgeon would disregard her health and safety once the surgery was completed. She rightly assumed she would be cared for to the best of his ability. To take a trip and come back a few days later before acting cost Rox her life. Thats not OK and thats not what she signed on for. She had the right to expect 100% care and attention from start to finish. She was a member of this forum family and deserves so much more from us than to have her memory shrouded with whispers and blame regarding hiding prior conditions to get what she wanted. That is just so wrong! Another thought. I get that many of you used this Dr and are very fond of him. You can't believe he would be capable of behaving incompetently. With you he was nothing short of amazing. Thats wonderful, thats how we should all feel about our surgeons. The problem is one I learned many years ago. People only know the YOU that you present to them. For example. I was married for 17 years to an extremely abusive man. He was abusive in every sense of the word. Out of fear and embarrassment I told no one for 17 years. In the meantime he presented himself to the rest of the world as the best guy in the world. The "give you the shirt off his back" type guy. Always the first to lend a hand and the life of the party. That was the truth to every single person that knew him, except for me. When I finally left and filed for divorce they were all blown away, none more than my family members. They all dearly loved him and couldn't believe he was who I now told them he was. I guess I'm saying that you can only judge your interaction with another person. Because someone else has a different one does not mean theirs isn't true also. It just means they had a different experience and were possibly presented with a different side of the surgeon than you were. Rox and her story should be treated the same way you would want your truth treated. She deserves that.

    Eating more

Insurance companies might differ but I was told mine only looks at the weight recorded at the first surgeon appointment.
  5. Lol talk about delayed gratification! At least we know all the poop potions you took the day before worked, in their own good time. Glad you made it through ok. The best is yet to come.
  6. The same thing happens to me if I get away from thin refried beans or soups. If it requires chewing i can't do much of it.
  7. I was wondering too.

    So that's it

    Thanks!
  9. A few of you might remember that I posted a week or so ago about feeling very sick. I was 3 weeks out of surgery when it started. I told you how I was weak and shaky, my heart rate was getting erratic and my BP too low. My BP since then has intermittently gone too high then back to too low. I was having to use an electronic shopping cart due to weakness. I was feeling worse daily and getting scared. Depression and anger started creeping in on me. I wasn't able to exercise and my weight loss was very slow compared to others. The main suggestions here were up-ing protein and water but I was already getting enough and I knew it. I got in to see my primary doc Monday and he ordered labs. Yesterday my doc called and told me the reason for my problem. My potassium was too low. He started me on a RX to get it up and will followup with new labs in a week. I'm hopeful that will do the trick. Potassium was not on my radar at all. I was so worried about protein and water and taking my vitamins and other supplements i just didn't think of it. I guess I thought I wold be getting it from something I was eating or drinking. Many years ago my SIL became ill at home and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. She coded in the ER and was resuscitated but soon coded again and died. It was due to low potassium. I should have thought of it but I didn't. Labs is not something my surgeon ever mentioned to me having done. I think all post-ops should do them though and I plan to do it on a regular basis, at least for a while until I know everything is staying in a healthy range.

    So that's it

Blessedfun2. You're so right. I was the same with smell. I could even smell vitamins and it was so intense I would gag. I'm so glad they caught and fixed your levels.

    Roca Labs

Thanks belladona, I'll pass on the advice.
  12. I have a friend that is telling me she is going to try a gastric bypass alternative by Roca Labs. Apparently it claims to simulate the gastric bypass sense of fullness by swallowing it. Has anyone heard of or used this? I haven't heard of this but would like to talk her out of it if anyone has any negative experience they can share

    Roca Labs

I read last night that when you purchase from them you are agreeing that you will not post anywhere in any form that their product doesn't work for you or caused harm or legal remedies blah blah blah. Sounds very reputable lol. Thanks for the links gamergirl. Going to click now.

    Roca Labs

Somebody must have fallen for it other than Mimistar. I probably would have if I had heard of it before surgery. What's aother 500 bucks in the grand scheme of the quest for the answer.

    So that's it

Thanks everyone. I'm so glad I went to him and told him how I have felt. He has always been in my corner. Nice to know its something with an easy enough fix.
  19. He does his leak test in the OR before you wake up. You'll get ice chips right away.

    So that's it

Blessedfun2, what do you do to check it and keep levels up?

    Question

I would to try to clear it up before surgery. The anesth. Doc will be fidgeting around your mouth area with his tubes and such and I would just want it gone first. Does taking an antibiotic usually clear it up for you?

Care for Some Flame Retardant Froot Loops?

I get sooo mad every time i read an article like this! If they (all the "theys" that put their wallet in front of the publics good) don't stop I can only imagine what the history books will say one day. I hurt for the next generations .

    Prednisone

I am off it now but my surgeon told me to be certain to contact him before going back on it post sleeve. He said I would need to take another drug first to protect my esophagus and stomach from damage from it. I have an autoimmune disease, scleroderma.
  24. I wouldn't put up with neativity from any Dr. If I was sure he would rect that way I would have already been locating a supportive one.
