  1. First, a bit about me and my surgery. Surgery for me was July 16. My weight on surgery day was 229. Two days ago it was 216. A little loss but not much. Oh well, thats not my concern right now. I had a known hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I think my immediate after surgery time was normal. I had pain of course but the meds I had worked OK. I had trouble swallowing for several days. After a sip I felt a ball of air in my stomach and had to work to get out. That has passed for the most part. I can drink fluids as well as if I had not had surgery. I can have soft foods now. When I do I suddenly feel stuffed after eating very little. That is the point I guess so that isn't my complaint. Weight loss has been slow compared to most of the others that post here. I am not even stressing about that anymore. It will come off when it wants to. It would no doubt be better with more exercise. I was one of those with an unbearably painful left side stitch. Mine held on for longer than most. It was actually torn loose during a major fecal impaction incident at 3 weeks (sorry TMI) . So, I wasn't joyous but happy enough for the first 3 weeks. Up until then I thought I was healing well enough and on and uphill trend. I thought what was done was done and believed every day was a bit better. I was walking on my treadmill daily and was building an exercise plan for the future. I bought a bike and some weights. I was looking forward. Now, not so much. My biggest problem is that I just really don't feel well. I am weak and shaky, almost the time. I alternate between cold and clammy to overheated. I am not getting the exercise I need because I can't manage to stand that long. When I need to shop I have been reduced to using the electronic shopping carts for the physically impaired. Each time I try to do it without one I find I cannot continue standing. I have 3 young children and everything I do for them is a chore. Standing at the stove or washer-dryer is a few minutes at a time thing then back to the chair. I am hopeful that the cause of this is the never-ending bathroom issues. BMs do not occur without lots of help. I have had only 3 since July 16 and all came only after several tries at various OTC treatments. I am getting 60+ Protein and at least that much Water. A few days ago I started putting 2 tsp Metamucil into my water bottles 3-4 X day. I also started taking 1 Pearl probiotic daily. I hope that helps. I hope that this is behind how I feel and that pills or foods can and will change it. In the first 3 weeks I didn't feel hunger. Now I feel hunger all the time. 30 minutes after a Protein shake or small meal its back. Its rather like a combination of extreme hunger and nausea. I have an RX for omeprazole from before surgery. I stopped taking it because I read I cannot have relayed or time release meds. Last night I opened one and poured it into my dinner. I did that again today. Does anyone else do this? As I type this I feel such a shaky sort of weakness in my arms that its a struggle. When standing my legs are the same. This is making me spend most of my time lying down or propped on my sofa. I was much more active before. No wonder my weight just stays on me! My surgeon's office is a 3 hr drive and I honestly can't imagine driving that far to see him, especially when it will likely be his indifferent PA instead. Then the drive back. I don't feel I would make it and I have no one in this state to ask for help. I will try to get in to see my pcp in the next few days and ask for labs to be run. I'm rambling and I don't know for sure why I'm typing this. Maybe I'm just hoping that someone else has been here and knows why I feel this way and how to get out of it. This is not what I want for my life.
  2. I have no ideas that will help you I just want to say I'm so sorry you're going through all of this.
  3. I I don't advise against having a sleep study done. I advise that after you have one you see a qualified Dr and are treated for your issues if it is determined by the testing that you have them. I don't like that it is used as a way to push approvals through, and it sometimes ( not always) is.
  4. I didn't think you would try to change him, not in that way. More of a change by association. I just meant that if he's a bit overweight and lethargic maybe just being around someone living a healthy lifestyle will bring him around. It depends on him and whats going on in is head I think. Maybe he just need a little boost. Its abolutely easier to be drug down than to lift another up, no doubt about that. I just wouldn't write him ff if e's great in all the other ways until I know he will never be on board with a healthier way of living. I cannot " vote" so to speak for the fit one because you have said he isn't forever material for you. He's off the table.
  5. I see what you're saying. He might influence you to sway toward his way of being in this world. However, you might sway him toward your way also. I don't think I would write off someone if I liked them in every way except that one. I would not tell him he could stand to lose a few or work out. If its true he already knows it. instead I think modeling it and inviting him to join you might in time show him a more healthful way of being. If this is a brand new relationship you have nothing to lose. Thats just me though.
  6. I had a known hiatal hernia repaired in surgery. I was miserable and. Ery often sick with it. To be quite honest I have no sign of the removal and wouldn't know if I hadn't been told. My reflux from before surgery is gone. All of the bad things that came along with it are gone. The feeling of having a baseball stuck in my chest after eating has not happened again. When it was bad it felt like a heart attack. I am very hopeful that when your healing is complete you will feel the relief I have. I hope so.
  7. Thats what I was wondering about. I can picture this tiny little waist and hips with inner tubes around my midriff and each thigh lol. Truthfully though, even if they don't leave a roll it sounds painful to struggle into them.
  8. Thank you ButterTheBean, you really are an inspiration!
  9. Most people don't know that you can do the study at home. I did. I was 225.00 that way. It was initially ordered by the surgeon/anesthe. with a note in the paperwork about it being a possible comorbidity. I did the test and returned the machine. A few days later I phoned the lab and was told I had moderate apnea and would need Followup care. My insurance had already approved me by that time. Although my surgeon had my results they never mentioned them or told me I had a problem or needed followup. So I agree with Mokee. Although sleep apnea is a very real and serious medical issue it is often used as a way to get insurance approval if other criteria isn't met.
  10. BTB I can be happy with that and would be. My problem is that over and over I read "one week out and 15 lbs down" or " 30 lbs my forst month" i expected to lose 1-3 lbs a week after i got rolling. I also expected a really amazing first month though. Almost all of my loss came on the first week then nothing at all for a week. That was basically my food funeral weight gain amount. It's a bummer for me but I will muddle through it. I have no choice. RJsBeginning, goirish78 and gamergirl thank you all.
  11. My son had gastric bypass a little over a year ago. He lives in another state. When I prepared for my sleeve he phoned me often to give me tips and bits of wisdom that came from his experience with life after WLS.. One of the main points he pressed was to get rid of my scale. Weighing only at Dr appointments was his advice. Little did he know that my scale obsession had already led me to purchase a professional Drs scale a few years earlier. The one with the sliding weights, not digital. It didn't come cheap. I bought it when I went on one of my larger attempts at weight loss, Atkins I think. I used it daily then until I was secure in the fact that yet another diet had failed, or guess to be honest I should say I had failed. After that the newest object of my affection became an object of contempt. I stopped standing on it and began giving it " the look" whenever I was forced to be in the room with it. I told my husband it was too large and in the way. I asked him to just throw it out. I won't bore you with his opinion of throwing out perfectly working and expensive items. Particuarly when he was armed with all of the reasons I had given him a year earlier of why we should buy it. Lets just say it remained in its place of honor. Instead he suggested choosing a monthly "Weigh Day" actually marking it on a calendar and weighing only then. In between weigh days my current weight would be a non issue. Easy enough. Sure, I can do that. It only takes a bit of self control. It's mind over matter thats all. Excuse me? Does he really know me so little? Fast forward to today. I find myslf once again stepping on the steel monster 2 x every day. Every time I step away from it angry and usually feeling defeated. If it gives me anything it gives it in 1/2 lb increments. What did I realistically expect weighing so often, right? But realism has little to do with anything when it comes to my scale. Enough! It messes with my feelings. It makes me feel like a loser and not in the weight loss kind of way. It isn't good for me. It hurts me. Today I will change. I cannot say I will go from one Dr appointment to the other or wait a month for weigh days but as of today I will commit to weighing 1 day per week. I know that I will be devestated if I stand still for 7 days but it is what it is. My son was right. The scale is not my friend. I cannot go back from my surgery. I have a small capacity for food and I always go for Protein first. I get as much protein in as I possibly can daily and sip flavored Water all day long. I walk as much as I can and I am trying to get more exercise each day than the day before. The weigh is coming off slowly for me but it will eventually come off. I see I will not have one of those amazing success stories. At 3 weeks I'm only down 11 lbs. from my day of surgery weight. With my slow rate loss my hopes for where I could be at 6 months are dashed. I have to give up that dream now and settle for 6 months being whatever it will be. Thats where I am today.
  12. I loved the post! I think you should continue to summarize your progress weekly. You have helped many people with this.
  13. Thank you aksmith
  14. I have never worn them. Are they hard to pull on? Does it leave a fat roll/bulge at the top and bottom?
  15. RJsbeginning, I don't even know what to say! You are an amazing person! You are very strong to have made it through all of that. God has a plan for you. I hate to ask because at this point it might seem trivial but, did you lose weight?
  16. I hope they fix this for you very quickly!
  17. I'm 3 weeks out. I can honestly say I have never felt hunger since I woke up after surgery. I noticed that if I smell something good simmering on the stove I feel the appetite kick in and I want It. If I have a bite or two I'm good and don't need more. If its ok for me to have it I usually do that. If not I just have a bite of somethingon my list. Yesterday that thing was broccoli beef, garlic shrimp and fried rice. I prepared that for my family and had every intention of putting a few pieces of the beef in my Bullet then mashing in some of the broccoli. I planned to have a piece or 2 of the shrimp also. I wound up taking one broccoli floret and mashing it up with my fork and having that and 1/2 cup cream of chicken soup. I found I just didn't want any of it after all. The cause for my weight problems has always been rooted in my love and constant craving for potatoes and pasta. I still prepare these things for my family and I am shockingly not tempted at all. My husband can and does eat baked potatoes in front of me very often and I would never have believed I could be untempted by that. My family has spaghetti and meatballs once a week and I have learned to finally make enough to serve each them with no leftovers and not want any. Not feeling hunger makes this surgery worth it to me on its own. If the weight would come off as fast as I want it to I'd be all set.
  18. Best wishes for a fast and flawless recovery.
  19. Aside from the distraction it should provide you with extra exercise and maybe better pre surgery weight loss.
  20. Caught it doing what? What is it? I'm so sorry you're going through it.
  21. You better believe I would count it lol. If it makes you feel better in the last week I have developed a rogue molar that dentist can't take it out for 2 weeks because of the difficulty of the excision, i broke my pinkie toe and was introduced to the wonderful world of impactions. I have lost nothing, not 1 stinking pound!
  22. I hear you, I'm there too. If its normal it seems to me they would tell you before surgery. I was not told. All I heard was amazing tales of massive loss and very quickly.
