5:2 and Body Fat

Recommended Posts

Have you guys been checking your body fat? The 5:2 claims that it reduces body fat better than other eating methods....my only record of my body fat percentage before starting 5:2 is from a Bod Pod test I had at about 8 pounds heavier (on my way down) 2 years ago.... it said I had a percentage of 36.9 (excess fat-not that good!)

My scale here has a body fat setting... I don't know how accurate it is... I never have used it, until a couple of days ago... and again this morning... it says 25.9 percent fat! ( lean for my age!) Thats quite a drop from the bodpod...) I think I must have had at least some fat loss.... I'm going to try and keep track of the last 12-15 pounds and see if the body fat goes down more. I have some of those pincher things (calpers) that measure body fat too, I will dig those out and try them as well...

I had a full-body / DEXA scan pre-op and then at my two-year post-op. I remember pre-op was in the high 30s and at the two-year was in the high 20s. I wonder if I can get another scan at three years...? My physio has a set of scales that supposedly measure body fat %, so maybe I'll see if I can pop by her office and stand on that one? Good idea, FYE!!

Discussion on the topic of loose skin and caliper use:

http://www.myfitness...lipers-accuracy

most on the thread said it would not make any difference (non of them had loose skin to start with!)

and the two people who seemed like they might have a clue (fitness trainer and someone who had asked a professional) said YES it makes a difference...

such as "I just had the caliper test and the hydrostatic testing (where you get dunked in the tank) and I asked about this (bc I'm curious like that). The tester told me that yes it will affect if its very loose skin like you had gastric bypass and have tons of skin all over otherwise no. And also the hydro testing in these cases is a better alternative."

I tried the calipers and they said I had body fat percent of 34.6.... average for my age...

OK, so when we lose body fat, the fat cells empty out, but are still present right? So I would think that there will still be more "mass"where the fat cells are, even if they are not being plumped up with as much fat..... (Miss not-a-scientist trying to be a scientist!)

This is actually why I feel that having liposuction, TT's and all the rest are really just part of our medical/physical/psychological reconstruction and not "cosmetic" surgery at all: Having a surplus of fat cells just waiting to be refilled puts us at a distinct disadvantage that a NF (Never Fat) doesn't have.

I never thought about it that way...but I'm going to go with it. Sounds reasonable. Yes...just marking time till my TT in November....hurry up Thanksgiving.

I have to be honest I've never thought about having mine measured... I think it never occurred to me because it would be depressing.

I have a scale that "supposedly" measures it, but I am not sure of the accuracy of it. This morning it said I had a % of 29.5%, average for my age, but sounds depressing that I am 30% fat still! Oh well!

I actually agree with FYE and Globe though. I think lip, Tummy Tuck, etc would make a difference as we have all the extra skin with extra fat cells "hanging" around. My tummy along is terrible and cannot wait to get rid of it someday....sigh....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
