My surgery is scheduled for 9/16 with Dr. Ramos Kelly in TJ. I am so excited. Of course I have the usual nerves, it is a major surgery, but I know this is the right decision for me. For those of you going to MX what kind of "food" are you taking with you? I am trying to just take a carry on so I can't bring liquids. I know they give you broth and SF popsicles but what do you do for Protein. I have pre mixed Protein Shakes that I like but the powdered protein kind of scares me. :)

So, from what I am reading some of you have stated that you don't think you will have to be on a liquid diet for a period of time. I thought that being on the liquid diet was the standard. I have to be on liquids 7-10 days before and for two weeks after surgery. pureed foods are next but only if I am approved to do so. I'm just gonna do what they tell me :) I don't want any problems.

09/23/10 my day!

Just got approved yesterday for surgery on Sept 4 in St Louis. Very excited to begin this new journey but also kinda terrified. Keep asking myself if I've lost my mind and am really planning on having 85% of my stomach ripped out of me. Then I keep telling myself - this is probably the sanest thing I've done in quite some time. And that I spent 58 years abusing myself, I can learn to be kind to me for my remaining years (I hope it's not 58!!). Anticipation of what I shall be is winning out over the sheer terror.

To tsan4u, my doctor doesn't require me to be on a liquid diet prior to surgery, but will need to be on a full liquid diet for 3 weeks after surgery. It is interesting to see all the difference between the doctor's instructions. Good luck with your surgery!!!! Mine is on September 19th.

My doctor requires my pre-op diet of 2 weeks to be two Protein Shakes (that were provided) a day and one meal of lean Protein of 4 oz with green veggies. If I get hungry I can have sf Jello, sf Popsicle, and broth.

And I am only required to lose 5 lbs before surgery. I will be on Clear Liquids for the first 3 days of post-op and move onto straight liquids for 3 week afterwards. Then purée for 2 weeks and day 36 and beyond will be soft solid foods.

Seems pretty simple now but, ill just have to see.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
