I'm going to be self pay and plan on financing with care credit. My husband gave me a reality check tonight and said, "You know if we don't qualify for credit there is no way this can happen." Has anyone had problems getting approved for what they asked for? We have decent credit, a little bit of cc debt, mortgage and one car loan that is about to be paid off. I don't have income though...is it based on household income?

TIA for sharing any experiences you have with care credit!

I know that Care Credit has been used for years at veterinary offices and I don't think it's terribly stringent to get approved. But what is the interest rate? Maybe you could look into a low-interest credit card instead and only put the surgery on it, and then have a plan in mind to pay off X dollars per month and stick to that plan. I almost look at it as a regular credit card vs a department store credit card.

Also, if you have a mortgage, that means you have a home, and you have any equity, it may be a better deal to get a home equity line of credit or something along those lines. Might be worth a consultation with a financial advisor.

They offer 0% interest over a certain time period. We've never been denied any credit and have been able to get super low interest rates on cars and etc. we bought our house right before the market crashed so unfortunately because of our specific loan we have we haven't built up enough equity to take out a loan against it. The thought of not qualifying hadn't even crossed my mind until tonight. Lol

When I applied, I was approved the same day. I wasn't married, but I am a home owner with average credit. I used it for my boyfriend when he did not have dental insurance a few years ago. One thing to be careful of is if you use it and you don't pay it off during the 0% time limit (depends on the doctors office) you have to back pay the interest. It can be a big whammy!

I got one for my husbands laser eye surgery. 0% for 18 months. I was approved for the cost of his surgery...$3700 I don't have great credit, but I paid it off before I had to pay the interest, and when I asked for an increase for plastics they didn't give me an increase. Pissed me off! I paid on time, and more then I should have ....and they still wouldn't up it so I could have my surgery. Grrrr!

Probably because they prefer the people who don't pay off by the deadline so that they can slam them with retroactive, higher-than-market-average interest. Good for you for paying it off before that happened!

I applied for carecredit today and was instantly approved for $4,900. Hopefully I can get them to increase the credit limit and I will be good!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
