Confession 4…

I was fat, but not lazy or stupid or just plain ignorant, despite popular opinion…

If I had a quarter for every time I had been treated rude, gotten “The Look”, or just ignored because of my past appearance I would be rich. But the saddest part is, I don’t think at the time I realized just how bad it really was to be fat in the eyes of others. While some people are blatantly rude, the ones that are the worst are the ones that you can’t tell that they are being truly condescending until you meet them on the other side of life. Now I am amazed by the smiles on the streets, the doors not shut on my face, and the cordiality of people. It has been such a stark contrast to the past!

It becomes something that you try to get used to, being treated bad for just being fat. But saying just fat, is like someone else saying they are just black, or purple. You can’t hide it, everyone sees it. Being fat is another way to be judged or looked down upon before you even open your mouth. In a society all about being beautiful, being fat just doesn’t fit in, and most people have no problem telling others, that fat people are disgusting.

There were many times that I knew I had to be able to justify myself more than anyone else because of my weight. My ideas, no matter how good they were, were preceded by the fact that I was thought of as fat or lazy. My knowledge and merit alone never stood as it should have in any situation. I always tried to not let it stop me, but the fact it, when you know all eyes are on you and you get the feeling you are being judged you can’t help but judge yourself as well.

Isabelle - no tricks here - just eating right and exercise. I, unfortunately, unlike you, am not grossed out by french fries. I know they don't like me and so when I'm having a craving I might eat one or two of someone elses - thats all I need and the craving is gone. I wish that stuff grossed me out.

hi girls

well just to let you know how it all turned out ,on closer inspection of the chatting i was cracking up about ,he had not filled out profile ,didnt have any friends and had only visited site once (i think he just into photos )still shit but certainly think i was maybe running ahead of myself with suspecting the worst ,he is embarassed though feels like a idiot(he was ) i do believe he thought it same as looking in porn mag nottttttt !!!!! people on net can interact i catch him again i cut it off. i have to add because it was said in one of posts it not good for kids to see parents unhappy(we are not unhappy )we dont fight ,we argue but not alot and never in any kind of serious way although once i hit him with door (accidently)lol i was doing dramatic door slam and he walked back towards me.i really dont believe he has ever cheated on me i do think however when down in dumps he withdraws away from me and that one i need to figure out (him too ).

what i am about to say will make you all think first part of this is turned around because of this its not ITS TRUTH

i found out yeaterday im pregnant !!!!!!!!!

unplanned number 5 and after a really good cry im now excited

although i dont want unfill i want to take pg Vitamins and eat good food and have regular scans to check baby doing ok but unfill does not make me feel happy i can eat small meals not just a few spoons ,i actual thought i could eat too much but weight shifting so i am happy with restriction but i know clinic recommend unfill but it early days in pregnancy and i figure i can wait to let them know ,i know my body and wouldnt put baby at risk if i cant eat i will take some out asap.

Ladies - Regardless of the "true meaning" of "steady losers", I have found more support, good information, and caring on this thread than any other.

I am more positive about this band than ever before and I needed to hear that exercise is the key. I knew that, I had just hoped that it wasn't true - dang it! So.... I am heading out the door for a walk.

Congratulations NIkki! Our first "band baby" on this thread!!! AAWWWW!

Im so glad you've been able to work through things honey! Wish you nothing but happiess. Pregnant mommy bellly!!! I LOVE it!

-------------------

Kuebel -- exercise is KEY!! number 1 MOST important. Get in the habit early! Trust me even if you are a rock star about it in the beginning it is SOOO easy to slow down and stop moving (I KNOW from experience). So, just find something you LOVE to do. Biking!! that is a good one! and do what you LOVE to do. Dont make yourself do something or you will eventually get bored and tired of it.

Walking is perfect!!

Congradulations Nikki!!! Yippee a bandee baby!!! And even if you do need to get unfilled during preganacy after the babes born you can get refilled and start again.

Kuebel - wtg on the walking!!! I know exercise is the key and when I stopped walking thats when I stopped losing. I know there are plenty of mornings when I lay in bed and think "do I really want to get up and walk?" but then I say hell no but you really do want to lose some of this fat! :) Keep it up and we're here for you. I hope you find something you love, I loved cross country skiing last winter and look forward to it again, but I honestly can't say I love walking. I'm doing it bc I know I need to. I sit at a desk all day and get no exercise so I really NEED to walk.

Ton of work to do today, have a great weekend ladies! I'm going school clothes shopping for the last time tomorrow. :Banane21: My baby is a senior.

OK girls did I make a mistake??? I had a slight unfill Monday. I can eat more but I am not eating a ton. I do not get stuck and PB on everything. I am exercising and I have gained 3-4 pounds since Monday!!!!!!!! I am so depressed I think I am going to have to get it put back in! I was very happy with my meals. Today I ate

1/2 of sm omelet with cheese, tomotoe and a little sausage. THen for lunch a small salad about 1 cup or so with the lettece for lunch, and I was at work and the cafeteria closed the only think they had left was tator tots -- yuck so I ate 4 tots. Yesterday was the same except instead of the tater tots I ate 2-3 oz of turkey for dinner. Am I over eating??/ I am well aware the tator tot was a bad choice, it is not a habit. What do you think it cost me $75.00 for my unfill and now I wish I hadnt. Jill

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
