Recommended Posts

Ok, really guys, how the heck did you make it through this 15 days of no food. I am on day 1 and my hands are shaking, my head is pounding, I am dizzy and exhausted. This is BAAAAD! Please help! I had a Protein Shake for each meal and Water in between. How long will this last or what am I doing wrong?

It takes a while for your body to adjust to a liquid diet. A week to two weeks. You will make it through this, it is tough, but you can do it.

I was also allowed to eat one meal which consisted of a Protein and a vegetable along with my shakes during my preop diet.. It helped with the shaking. Trust me this is the worse part of the whole process! Tmro is my one year anniversary since surgery and my life is so wonderful now!! I'm down 82lbs!!!

The first three days are the worst. You should start feeling a bit more normal on the 4th and 5th days, and by the second week it will probably not be any big deal anymore, just annoying because your head wants something besides Protein shakes :P

If you're allowed, you might want to try some broth as part of your Water, just to break up the unending Protein shake sweetness.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm in my room with no lights and about to shut down my iPad. Took two tylenols and now I feel like I need to throw up. Can't win for loosing. I don't know about this. Plus my grandfather died yesterday and I'm super stressed which makes me want to eat everything in sight.

I also think some of the issue is that I did my fourth crossfit session today and it was extra brutal. Should I stop until after surgery on the 24th and if so how long do I wait to start physical activity again after? So many questions, so little time.,

I would ask my Doc for their opinion on how long to wait on exercise post surgery - I was really run down for a long time after my own (had complications though) I do think it takes about 8 weeks for things to really heal up - Crossfit sessions could be a bit too much early out. I would walk to start, and focus on healing and getting fluids in.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Not easy and if you have a funeral or people around there is food around. It is tough, the worst part I had. I was so concerned though for a safe surgery that it was my motivation. I had 3 shakes, 1 Protein Bar and one Protein Soup a day during mine. I agree with the soup/broth idea, that should help with the feeling of having "food." Hang in there. It is so much better after surgery so just keep that in mind.

It's not just carb detox, it's also fat detox and maybe caffeine?? for me it was all three when I started my preop and I thought I was going to die or kill someone for the first 4 days...Sorry about your grandfather, and hang in there. This is a very important phase, and just remember that every pound you lose now is NEVER coming back on.

hugs

The bad news - you got about 3 more days of this to go.

The good news - on the 5th day you will wake up and be amazed at how good you feel with how little you're taking in.

The best news - many people are allowed to eat anything they want until the day of surgery. They get to deal with recovery AND what you're dealing with right now. You won't have to and it'll be behind you.

That site was very encouraging. Thanks so much. I felt better this morning. The Tylenol pm helped me to avoid starving in the night.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
