Cash Payers (in the USA)

Recommended Posts

Who has had their surgery in the states and done self-pay? Just found out my insurance doesnt cover the procedure, but I still want to have it done. How much did it cost overall AND was it worth it?

Dr. Heider in Lake Norman, NC charges in the 12,00o range. His office is easy to deal with, I am having it done in one week. he has great reviews, I am impressed with him so far. there are a few other charges so it probably ends up closer to 13000

I had my sleeve done on July1...and I paid cash for it in Louisiana. I live in Shreveport and the 3 surgeons there where all about $18,000 & up. However with some research I found Dr. Borland in New Iberia about 3.5 hours south of Shreveport and paid only $9,800! I am traveling down today for my 1 week post op visit....I have done quite well comparing to some posts that I have read here and have already lost 20 POUNDS!! I feel great and the only regret is that I did not do it sooner! Hope this helps! Good luck with your process.

Thank you, ladies! The more responses the better. I thought it would be way more than what you gals are saying ($20,000+) so this is a relief! Getting the surgery is becoming more and more realistic!

Dallas Tx, Dr. James A Davidson, $11,000, includes surgery, hospital fees, and one year post op care... I had it done 7/30/12, I have lost 150lbs and it was worth every cent, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

All the places I called in the Vegas Area were 20K +, So I headed down to Mexico and saved $15K. I only paid $5500 and had the most amazing experience ever.

I was self pay. I live the the Dallas area. Happens to be one of the most affordable places to have it done stateside. Also happens to have lots and lots of top WLS surgeons in the country.

I am 4 months post surgery with Dr. Nicholson. Total cost was $12,200. All inclusive. All pre op testing, surgical fees, hospital fees for 2 nights. I didn't pay a penny more. This is not the least expensive surgeon in town and not the most expensive but it is a good representation of the self pay cost in the part of the county.

As far as was it worth it? Not only yes but HELL YES!! It has changed my life the amazing! I feel so much better and healthier.

For me, it's a bargin at twice the price!

Good luck making your decision!

I paid $9500 at TLC in Houston. They discovered a hernia beforehand. Insurance covered a portion. Otherwise it would have been about $13800. The price includes BLIS insurance in case of complications. The cash pay for the original surgeon I was going to use was around 20k because he did it at a large, expensive, teaching hospital. That cost didn't include complication insurance.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
