Pregnant and on Diclectin for severe morning sickness

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 years post surgery and pregnant with my 5th baby. I'm suffering from the WORST case of morning sickness I've ever had. With my previous pregnancies I was able to throw up and carry on with my day. This time I've got that constant car sick feeling all day and all night. I'm 10 weeks pregnant and not sure how much more I can take of this. Not that I really have a choice

My Dr has me on 2 diclectin tablets 3 times a day and I feel like they aren't working. They are a slow release but I'm wondering if my stomach is absorbing them too quickly or not quick enough.

I'm debating trying acupuncture. Has anyone else had severe morning sickness and what did you do?

Have you tried ginger candies or any for of ginger for that matter? I'm not sure if you are able to take it post-op but you may also ask your dr about Zofran.

My surgeon said that for many sleeve patients slow release or extended release medications don't work as well. The coating on the tablet is meant to be activated by a certain amount of exposure to stomach acids, and with the smaller stomach, it just doesn't happen the same way (apologies for the not exactly medically precise explanation there). Maybe your doctor can try a direct release form of the medication to see if it works better?

I am on the same car-sick ride with you. I am 9 months post op and 8 weeks pregnant. I have already been into the hospital once for dehydration and dizzy spells. I cant keep ANYTHING down. I didnt even feel this bad after having the Sleeve surgery. Anyways... My doctor is going to have a home nurse come see me and put me on a Zofran pump so the medication stays in me 24/7 so I can drink and eat until I am 14/15 weeks along. Apparently pills for post-sleevers dont work the way they should because they dont stay in your body long enough to absorb. Talk to your doctor and see what they can do to make you more comfortable.

I had sever hyperemesis with my daughter for the entire 9 months. In and out of the hospital and I even went in to kidney failure for 5 days. Needless to say I had a very healthy 9 pound baby girl who is now 12.

What helped me was licking the salt off fritos chips and crushing up popsicles into slushies. As for meds I took reglan 10mg three times a day along with phenergan suppositories. About the 7th month it got alittle better for me but it still kinda lingered. We are getting ready to try for another and I've been worried about this since I just got sleeved.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help! I think I've found my cure!! I spoke to my dr about the absorption of these tablets and she gave me the maximum dose 8 pills a day instead of 6. I asked about the Zofran but its not approved for pregnant women in Canada yet she said. So I made my way to the health food store. Ginger Root!!! 1200mg twice a day and I'm getting out of bed and eating again. Finally! I however like the licking off of frito chips and slushies. Will try those too!!

Zofran never worked for me at all. Phenergan is better. Ask for suppositories incase you can't get down a pill.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
