Anyone else getting sleeved in August?

Recommended Posts

Endoscopy done...everything looks good! Start my two week liquid diet and have Psych eval tomorrow. Can't decide if I want to have something yummy (carby) for my last pre-surgery meal or just stick to low carb the way I've been doing since approval. I want to lose as much weight as possible before surgery, so I guess I know what my answer is...;)

I'm so annoyed right now. I got approved and scheduled for surgery for August 6th. My hubby took off work to stay with my kids and am having a cousin who took off work help me with kids the following week. The surgeons office said that surgeon wont even be in that day..ugh..Why would they give me that day..so I got August 8th..rearranged everything for august 8th including drs appointments.. Then I get my packet in email saying Im approved for the lapband which i had inquired about initially but when i submitted my packet everything stated the sleeve. Ah so now scheduler tells me he doesnt do the sleeve on the 8th because his "sleeve" assistant isnt in that day. so now im waiting around till tomorrow so that I can rearrange my husband and mothers schedule as well as all my drs appointment..Little bumps in the road but still annoyed!!

Just wanted to add that I had told them many many times that this is the ONLY week that will work for me as the following week is my husband and daughetrs bday and bday party and my daughter starts her first day of preschool in september, so I wanted to be well enough to drive her there and pick her up... Sorry just needed to rant

JUST Got my Insuarnce approval. I am being sleeved August 6th!! Now to takle this 2 week liquid diet. I can do 2 liquid meals and one Protein and salad for dinner.< /div>

Opps I was wrong...was told today I am on all liquids for 2 weeks..and all the shakes I bought are no acceptable...they gave me a strict list of 5 different shakes to try..they want me drinking like 6 shakes a day...Sounds crazy 2 me. But I have to have 1200 cals a day...and I was looking forward to my grilled chicken dinners. Ohh well..

hey there' date=' just started my pre-op this morning. I am surprised to see how many of you seem to have a lot of «freedom» when it comes to what to eat/drink. I have to stick to 4 opti-fast Protein shake a day (chocolate or vanilla)...pretty gross, and only 3 cups of veggies (natural) a day. I just drank my second Protein Shake and could not finish it...it is so thick and yucky. I wonder if it is bad that i do not finish the shakes...At least, I feel terrific, so far so good :)...The thing i miss the most already: a piece of gum. It usually gives me a little boost, but i have no intention to cheat. I actually don't understand how come so many people on here say they cheated...Personnally,my pre-op diet is for only two weeks and also it's self-paid and though my parents are the one paying, i have no intention to put their money to waist...

If some of you have started a while ago, i would love to know what part of the pre-op you found most difficult. Usually, are the first couple days the most difficult, or is it towards the end, or else ?

It's great to know when everyone is getting their surgery, but it would be nice to ask our questions, share our experience/feelings on this page.

Thanks and good luck to all ![/quote']

Try the costco Protein drinks.. I think its called premiere already made

I asked mine if I could replace the shakes with lean Protein instead and he said "yes - keep portions small". I aim to get under 30g carbs, 100g Protein, and ~900 calories.

I am still trying to find Protein Shakes that I like because we have ~2 or 3 weeks of them post-op. yuckie.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
