How much time did you take off work?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm new so I apologize if you have already answered this question somewhere else :)

How much time did you take off before returning to work? I am hoping to return after a week and a half or so. Is that a reasonable expectation?

Sure. I could have gone back after the first week, but my employer authorized three weeks! :D

I had surgery on Thursday and was back at work on Monday. I am in sales so as long as I can talk and negotiate I am good to go!

I was off 10 days but could have gone back after one week. I am on my feet all day (Nurse) and talking. Only issue was dry mouth and not getting in enough liquids in between patients.

My doctor put me off for 6 weeks. I probably could have gone back after one week.

I had surgery on a Tuesday and went back on Monday. I overdid it and had a bit of a relapse. I should have taken off two weeks for myself but not good about taking off.

Not sure if this is the place for this question but I'm looking for some encouragement as I still getting my appointments finished. I find the whole process stressful. I know I'm ready for this to happen and get better results from all my efforts to lose this weight. But I'm falling back into my old ways of dealing with stress by eating. I know being sleeved is only a tool and I desparetely need it. Before I decided to do this I had finally swore off diets after losing and gaining the same pounds over and over again, now while waiting for all of this it getting me down.

If you post this as a new topic rather than as a response to someone else's topic, you will get lots of support and encouragement.

It all depends on how your body responds to this surgery. It's amazing to see so many people were ready to go back to work after a week! You also have to take into consideration what your job entails. I was instructed "no lifting greater than 10 pounds for 6 weeks." Be safe! Good Luck!

Take it one step at a time and check mark each step. Attempt eating your cravings only on the weekends until you're on your pre-op diet. You can also start going to the WLS support groups for real life experiences and tips to keep you encouraged.

I got 2 wks off and need every bit if it to adjust to my new eating habits as well as physically healing.

I had surgery June 17 and today was my first day back to work.

I had initially hoped to go back on June 24, but my pain level was still too high.

Lasted almost all day today, left at 3pm. I wanted to take it super slow.

I wish I had allowed for a full two weeks off.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
