Should I ask Mexico Bariatric Centre for reinbusement for ....

Recommended Posts

Ok... had my surgery a week ago with the "NOW VERY FAMOUS DR. KELLY" haha

All is good and I can’t say enough about his team... but

When I booked I booked with MBC they told me and advertise that they are "The Official Site". blah blah blah

Not only did I want a certain surgeon, I wanted a particular hospital and hotel as well.

My husband has been in TJ to assist other patients many times and he recommended Florance\Oasis.

When we were picked up the morning of surgery we found out that our reservation had been changed to Mi Doctor Hospital

The difference in the cost of these two facilities for operating time is $400.00

MBC said it was the surgeon that changed hospitals. I agree that at that date he was no longer using Florence/Oasis but using Nova for his own bookings.

In one hand I think MBC are somewhat correct in saying that, but thats due to the fact MBC would not absorb the extra fee of $400.00 that Dr, Kelly picks up himself if you book direct. I paid the fee for Florence/Oasis!

I booked Kelly, florence / Oasis and the Grand Hotel. We got 1 out of 3

Also we opted for a better x-ray for the leak test and were taken by Dr. Kelly and Lora themselves to Angeles Hospital. The surcharge of this x-ray was $68.00 and was paid by us and paid directly to the hospital. I think the fee for the leak test at MI Doctor is $38.00

So... do you think I should ask Mexico Bariatric Centre for reinbusement for .... $430.00

Man, MBC is losing points fast! You should absolutely ask for a reimbursement. Telling you there had been a change of venue WHILE EN ROUTE is despicable.

They changed your hotel also? Was it a less expensive hotel?

I don't understand the part about your husband helping patient's in TJ?

I think in this case it is warrented. florence looks like a wonderful hospital. There were a few surgeons that were on my short list that worked out of INT or Mi Doctor. Neither of these hospitals appealed to me at all. One of the reasons that I decided on Dr. Illan is because he works out of Florence. I think it unlikely that you will receive a refund, but I would certainly ask.

My husband had surgery 3 years ago when things ran rampid. Since he was one of the lucky ones that week he vowed to help assist others when he can. Many people (mainly women) go down bythemselves. When asked, the number one reason is to keep it a secret. If you tell just 1 person... your lie can be found out so easily.

He was asked to help someone with their fears a few years back so he boarded a plane, met a complete stranger and became their... guess you would call it... the patient coordinator. (Their servant)

Just so happened that woman had a real hard time with surgery and he was there to comfort her, get her ice, make her walk, speak to the nurses about pain when she couldnt, make sure her drains (2) were emptied... you get it.

Some patients dont need a friend with them but when its all done and over with... many say that they wish they had someone with them.

We both retired before we were 50 and I guess financially... pretty well off. Money was never an issue. Safety and well being are.

Now he still goes down with people but he lets them buy his airfare. He does not charge them a dime. He is GOOD at what he does. I guess its his way of passing it forward.

During the days of his surgery... a few patients died that week. When we pulled up to the place I wish we would of walked out. we were warned... but the surgeon had a great reputation, great web site... we got sucked in.

Wow... to long a post. So again, its just his way of paying it forward. Hope that helped with your question.

Edit note... hotel was fine. Grand and the Marriot are the same price... its just that he personally likes the grand. Must be a pretty waitress there lol

So your husband is for lack of a better word a coordinator? And correct me if I am wrong but some of your posts have been written by him?

So are you you? Or you're husband?

Very confusing....

Sorry but not trying to be confusing.

I think "coordinator" is a poor choice of words on my behalf.

I am me... lol

He posts for the last 3 years on the OH forum.

But he has answered a post or two when Im not around for me

Maybe a better word should be a patient advocate. He just assist people while in TJ.

For anyone that needs help.. no matter what dr. Well, almost any doctor.

Hope that helps.

I had surgery 10 days ago with Kelly at MI Doctor

He had surgery 3 years ago with Dr. BadNews at ... a bad place... (dont want to get into that)

Thats another HUGE discussion.

If you book with a service, they should absolutely keep you abreast of any and all changes, including additional costs, changes of venues, etc. If I were in your shoes, I would definitely request a refund, as you did not get what you specifically asked for and were not notified of the changes in advance.

So Monday... this is what my husband will do.

He will write a short email to the service involved asking for a partial refund.

I will post that email on this page. I hope thats not against the rules.

I will then follow up with the reply if any.

Thanks for all the input.

That is why we are so focused on booking direct if possible no matter who the surgeon is.

Thats just our opinion.

and I had a pm about why I just joined (after surgery)... answer is... I lurked for awhile but I live with a guy that has gone through all this for 3 years. I get all my answers from watching him go through the highs and lows. What better way for support and to learn.

Thanks

I don't think the service is solely to blame. Dr Kelly stopped at a particular facility (reasons unknown.. Just hearsay) and because he went to another facility, it should be partially his responsibility to update with services. Just saying

Thanks for your comment.

I acknowledge that Dr. kelly and Florence/Oasis parted ways and Dr. kelley explained to my husband and I why... and without getting into that... we accept it. I feel it was for the best.

He advised the service of that situation and requested that I be sent to Nova.

The service found out that the difference for OR time was $275 more at Nova vs F/Oasis

They refused to pay this and booked me at a less expensive facility that was $400 less than F/Oasis

So... I feel he did advise the service accordingly.

I also feel that because I booked with the service it is up to the service involved to contact me and make me aware of this.

I also feel I should of had the option to agree or cancel... well before the morning of the surgery. I cant tell you how upset I was just hours prior to surgery. That was not fare.

The service did advise us a week or so prior to flyng to TJ that they changed to hotel. They could hyave done the same with the hospital.

Hope that makes it a bit clearer.

of Nova to MI Doctor was

Price wise the OR times at the Mi are $900 the Oasis is $1300 and the Nova is $1575 we s

Your husband reached out to me last week and we spoke on the phone - very nice man!!! Didn't want anything from me, was just offering to answer questions and give advice. From they way I understood it, he acts as a sort of "medical tourism companion". He is NOT a coordinator and will steer you away from certain doctors and hospitals. It sounded to me like his years of experience and many trips to Mexico with WLS patients have given him a valuable perspective. He was certainly helpful to me!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
